Is it an iphone? If so take it to Apple as they have a set charge for water damaged phones. Can't remember off the top of my head how much it is, but its a lot less than you would think. You basically get a replacement handset.

I put a pager through a 2 hr wash cycle once - stuck it on the radiator for a couple of days, worked fine - the rice tricks a better bet I reckon, bit less harsh on the newer technology, good luck
Dropped my desire hd in a bucket of water, hairdryered it for an hour then let it cool overnight , works like brand new , and sorted the crackling earpiece as well
As said a bowl of rice and in the airing cupboard. Mates missus dit it with an Iphone 4s...phone works but not the bluetooth or wi-fi. Asians around my end repair waterdamaged phone. If you don't get any joy your end I can have a word for ya.
