What can you reccomend , and what does it do in laymans terms ?
I bought complete MacAfee , yet still got a virus .
So after some surfing downloaded Anti Malaware .

Protection for computer seems such a confusing thing for me , so what do you use / highly reccomend / it does what exactly ?

I'm sure theres lads with more of an idea on this than me, but I think the free version of AVG security could do the trick

Have a look at Avg/Avast or windows essentials (need a legit windows). All Free.

what harm does a virus / trojan do to your computer ?
what is the point to them ?

hey steve, you know the story of the horse of troy ? its the same thing. they will have access to your computer. macaffee should take care of this.

when you say access , do you mean secure things , like if I log into paypal or my bank account ?

Steve, if you're using a Windows based machine you've got to have some anti-virus protection. Virus' and Trojans can fuck things up in a variety of unpleasant ways - slow your machine down, delete files, pass your security details on to third parties, etc etc. They're a 'bad thing'.

AVG is fine, which is what I use for my Windows laptop.

Alternatively get a Mac, and be a smug, virus free tosser, like me. : )

I have total protection through MacAfee , but when I downloaded Malawarebytes it detected 7 things , think 1 was a trojan , I deleted them all , but why didn't MacAfee detect these ?

I use Comodo after recommendation by a computer geek I know.

Always used AVG, never had a problem.

AVG here, does the trick for me.

AVG for windows based machines Steve.

I use;

Malwarebytes from HERE which is free and very good.

I also pay for webroot secureanywhere HERE but did find a code which gave 50% off the complete version. This software is pretty good as well.

I had quite a few issues with my machine and these two sorted everything right out and have had no more problems since.....

ive got mcafee on my desktop, which is pretty good.
Avast on my laptop, doens't have a virus on it.

i am on a mac now and will never go back to a PC . i use to have Norton Antivirus and internet security from norton, did the job very well. on my mac i just use little snitch, this little app secures all my incoming and out going connections. you don't need more then that on a mac.

Often wondered if I need owt on my iPad/iPhone .i knew you didn't need antivirus as such but do I need 'little snitch' ?

I put this thread up on Osti, a Hull lad (I think) told me to get Microsoft Security Essentials, wouldn't need anything else, never had a problem since.

Just an extra protection for you to Allow or not allow certain things.

Dont need it but nice to have.

i have it. Stays in the background. Gives you the option to shut down all communication if needed ect.
