US secondary schools usually have Varsity (final year) and junior varsity (3years preceding varsity) teams. Our varsity coach stepped down, the current coach moved up, and I just bumped up from coaching 12 yr olds, to the junior varsity, aka 16-17yr old, team.
This is the age when scouting reports for college programs start up etc.
