Your not wrong. think a lot of its driven by boozers trying to make it like st patricks day. Funny thing is when people celebrate it without understanding what a saints day is all about.

really? place near me had a hog roast. As for celebrating St Patricks day, no I don't. it makes sense for the Irish to celebrate it seeing as they're a Catholic country. St George's Day makes no sense IMO, if we were to have a national holiday is should be the Queens birthday or coronation date.

Why should we want to celebrate the Queen's birthday?
St Georges day is also the anniversary of Shakespeare's death. Surely that's more cause for national "pride" than the celebration of a Catholic saint born of a Palestinian mother and who died in the Lebanon. You can't really compare it to St Patrick's; no one really cares about Saints or their days, they just want an excuse to drink until they forget their shit lives. George simply doesn't put on as good a party - he's no corporate backing.
Anyway, who cares, if it makes you happy, so be it. Happy St Georges day for yesterday.
I didn't even know it was St Georges day until I saw people wearing hats and celebrating in Albert Square last night. Funny wee place that, doesn't seem in any way to represent normal life.
I'm Irish by the way and the annual piss up on March 17th is nothing to do with a Saint, it is simply an excuse and increasingly is becoming an event driven by corporate beverage giants in St James Gate, Dublin 8. I didn't even go to the pub this year and it was a saturday, full of arseholes.

Which was a fantastic thing to do and a lot more patriotic than supping a gallon of lager and then shouting 'In-ger-land' at a few of them 'immigrants' on the way home from the boozer which is how a load of deluded fools behave each year on the 23rd April.
St Patrick was an British man captured by the Irish and made into a slave for years.
Had a good nght last night as usual, always done well up here, has been for years and years! Shirt and tie job, special ales put on for the cause as well. Don't get all this slagging it off and people saying those who celebrate it are racists and all that bullshit... How does being patriotic automatically make you into an immigrant hater? People are afraid to like England and enjoy themselves these days, which is a shame but mostly down to media spin and pure ignorance... It's people like those who slag off days like yesterday that are the reason the country is going down the pan, more content to sit on their arse and slag it off than actually go out and enjoy themselves.
Going into town on 23rd April is like going to an EDL rally these days, I swear it never used to be though? It's only really caught on in the last 3 or 4 years I think, no idea why.

Point of order, here in West Brom we have celebrated St. George's Day for the past 14 years with an annual parade. Contrary to the opinion of the tea drinking, tree hugging hand ringing liberals on here it is not a racist march by tattooed, knuckle dragging, goose stepping skin heads, it's a fun day out for over 10,000 folk ranging from kids in prams to old soldiers fiercely proud of their heritage, freedom and tolerance. Not once in all of those 14 years have i ever seen a Nazi salute or a cry of 'Lets burn the Mosques'. Some of you folk need to get out more.

I've heard about that parade in West Brom T and that is how the day should be celebrated if people so wish to do so. But you have to admit that for many up and down the country it is merely an excuse to put their 'Stoney' jackets on, act like an utter cunt and show how 'patriotic' they are by abusing the workers in kebab shops etc. Sad but true.

show my pride towards my country by turning out every November 11th stood side by side by old folk who are worthy of being honoured.
