A load of my lot are going over. They all booked up straight away after the euphoria of the final. Don't think I'll be able to make it though as will have a very young baby by then. Plus the flights are looking quite expensive from Spain. The lads are all staying in Nice. I went to our last Supercup against Madrid, think it was 99. Monaco was a bit strange to be honest. Not many bars open, infact the place was pretty dead, aside from the fans. We managed to find a bar hidden away luckily. Sure it will be a good trip though. The train ride from Nice to Monaco along the Riveria is some of the most beautiful scenery I've seen......... then there's the women.

Just heard tonight that UEFA instruct them to close the bars in monaco 3 hours before the game so looks like we'll need to get back to nice for a drink during that period if we want one.... have heard Nice is lovely so looking forward to it

IMhO, best thing to do while going for a match in Monaco is walking 30min westbound from the stadium, to Le Cap d'Ail, along the shore. View is lovely. Eating on the beach in a small restaurant on the Mala beach is something an aesthete shouldn't miss out:)
Back last night. Great trip football aside @Vasque - Mark (Wrighty) was there too with his young lad, Andy. @Wungit - spot on mate. Nice was a really nice place. Not cheap no but still great vibe about it. And whilst waiting on Wrighty arriving, spending Friday lunchtime drinking freezing Heinekens along the shore in 90s degrees watching some gorgeous birds going topless wasn't the worst friday lunchtime I've spent . We did manage a beer in Monaco too - a couple of free pints courtesy of Wrightys french patter whilst some poor Chelsea youth was busy bemoaning the $10 euro for a half pint situation @Jentleman - didn't get a lot of time in Monaco, mate. Train ride was nice though.
and only time I can remember an airport being cheaper to drink in than the destination I've just come from

Falcao has to be the best out and out forward in the game at the minute. Superb player who'll probably move on from Atletico sooner rather than later given their current financial situation.
Noticed that Hulk - who Falcao played with at Porto - has moved to Zenit St Petersburg for £32m. He'll obviously be getting a very good pay packet out of it but seems a bit of an odd career move, especially given that Zenit have a famously racist element to their support.
dont know if any of the other comments said anything about their fans and police. they are a nightmare. cowardly bunch. I was out there for aberdeen in europa cup 2seasons ago. we were attacked by 100 idiots with flairs, thankfully there were a couple of hundred lads to take care of them. they did attack scarf wearing fans all day though and the police lay intoyou. great stadia, city etc...but watch where you go and dont wander off on your own or youll be picked off. strange for this to happen in a modern city these days but in does. a bit like Rome/balkan countiies im afraid
duh! just noticed the title is about the super cup match. i hadnt seen the CL draw and presumed it was this the blog was about. thought i was say before the usual suspects give it to me in their predictable way
Wasn't surprised with the result to be honest the Spanish leagues the best in the world and athletico are the 3rd best team in the league where as Chelsea are the 4/5th ? Best team in the premiership so was always going to be a tough game for them
Got good odds for the athletico win 12-3 couldn't believe the price
