has any of you ever been to Budapest or Zagreb ?

if so , is it decent of for long weekend ? food and drink prices etc

Never been to Zagreb, but Budapest is a good city to visit. Beatiful architecture (good mix of old monumental and the modern). Students from all over Europe (and the world), so good nightlife and lots to choose from. Prizes are low compared to northern Europe. And great food (but never order goulash soup -the national dish as a starter, no room for anything else). There's lots of spas and beauty parlors there (big industry), so not a bad place to bring the missus, this city. As for shopping I honestly don't remember. But my brother got his jacket stolen in a bar, I remember that. But except for one thieving cunt, hungarians are good people.
