Yeah adam, I've had a few and I've got a couple of racers for sale that you can change to a one speed if your interested. As for the pedaling? Oncve you've got used to it they're really great, the bike almost becomes an extensive of your limbs. I'm only in sheffiled so let me know if you want pics of the bikes before they go on the bay.

Would recommend single speed instead mate. The fixie thing has been raped to death, at least where I've been (Copenhagen and now london) they are pretty much everywhere. I never had a fixed but built a single speed from some spare parts my father had and really enjoyed that. Riding a fixie bike in the city is pretty ridicolous, and all my friend who had one always went on long trips on the country side where you can actually enjoy the pedaling. A single speed is much more handy if you're using it in the city.

ping us your email mate ill take some photos and send em over to you squire..... yeah im from Wickersley originally. i was WICKERSLEY YOUTH U15 FINLAND TOUR TOP SCORER THA KNOWS!
Started riding a track bike (fixed gear) in 1992 as a courier. Even though it's very hip these days it's an amazing feeling riding one. I have a full titanium road bike with 9 speed shimano on it and it barely gets out of the basement.
I'm just so used to riding a fixed gear the road bike feels weird. True track bikes have a very short wheelbase and steep headtube angle so they're very quick turning. Also not used to grabbing a handbrake to stop.
Never had a go on one TBH but I did used to rid a bit. Still got 3 bikes in my garage collecting dust. Won't sell them though as I still have aspirations of getting back into it at some point.
Why does it have to be fixed wheeled? will a normal geared bike not do you any good.
Ive got bad bad oesteo arthritis in my ankles knees hips and lumber spine . I was a keeper not very good highest I got was Notts reserves . But as cyclings a non impact activity its good for me joints , could do with some replacements but you can only have two then your up shit creek . Basically Baz Im a lazy bastard and I swim for ages but also work it hard but its boring , so at least with a bike I can see abit of the sights , but I free wheel all the time so Im a lazy cunt. Well you did ask mate. Ad/
If you have bad knees then a fixed gear is a bad idea unless you put a very easy gear on it. I'd suggest a 48 chainwheel and 18 or 19 rear cog.
Thanks for the advice matey , I was leaving all the technical stuff to one of the Physio's , he track races (see I;m a lazy twat.) I no nothing I just want to hang on as replacements at 40 is shitty ! I wouldnt be going mad (he says. Mwwoorrrhhhhahahaha!!! ) just excercise on the flat , I live in the trent valley so it's relatively flat , thank fuck.

If he's ridden the Manchester velodrome please shake his hand for me. I used to race track at Trexlertown velodrome here and in 1997 got on the Vandedrome in NY which was an insanely steep turn velodrome (54 degree banking) first wood track I ever rode and it was way scarier than flying around NYC in traffic all day.

This is what I thought - strange thing for a physio to advise without further guidance.
While I've got the attention of the forum cycling fans, remember that the professional season begins in earnest this week with the Tour Down Under. Highlights are on sky sports at 6.30pm daily. Don't all rush your tea though.
