The famous Carl Lewis of sprinting fame was on Talksport this morning. Sounded a decent gent going on the interview. Down to earth and had a likeabilty factor going on - not bad for radio - and even better for talksport where outside of Hucksy and Jacobs and Alan Brazil, I'd struggle to go better than severe dislike for the rest.... The thing that struck me was by the time 2012 is happening, it'll be 28 years since Lewis first won gold in LA unreal, eh? Well, unreal for those of us old enough to recall it. 9 golds over 2 games IIRC including the infamous Ben Johnston race in Seoul. No doubt Lewis is a sporting legend but sounds like a decent spud as well - which is nice considering the obvious comparison with some of our 2 bob footballers who, even on ability, as my old man likes to point out, "£65k a week and he's not even 2 footed ". And he is right you know. Still, I love humouring him that Denis Law would never have got into the Utd treble winning side or John Charles couldn't have played in the modern game Anyways, digressing again Yep Carl Lewis. Ironic thing was that he's known for his sprint forrays when actually he was a long jumper first and foremost who sprinted. Talented fella.
and as an aside, I do always remember Daily Thompsons t-shirt with the words "is the worlds fastest man gay?" or words to that effect again - in LA IIRC.....
"The nightmares invading the sleep of Bayern fans involve four horsemen of the Champions League Apocalypse riding towards them. As the faces come into focus, they will recognise Frank Lampard, Cole, Petr Cech and Drogba. All were immense..."
