He now says that he rung the sorting office and they said it will be here at the weekend, however i though you could only track something if sent special delivery, if he sent it special it would of been here by now, a bit odd?

He's talking shit mate, ask him for the tracking number, only thing I can think of is he can't be arsed sending it so is putting you off until he can bother, I seriously doubt the sorting office will stop what they are doing and look for your parcel, the royal mail site you just put the tracking number in and it tell's you where it is

You are right. IF he sent it Special delivery then the post office can track exactly where the parcel is and they will do so if asked. You can't do that with Recorded delivery though, that is just signed for at the other end. Just to give you an example of how shite Recorded delivery can be, couple of years ago I sent a parcel 1st class Recorded and it took two weeks to go the 30 miles it had to travel. Best of luck to you pal.
The moral of the story, always tell the seller to send by SD if it's worth much, costs a bit more but it gives you a safety net. If they couldn't send you a tracking num you'd know they're talking shyte but sometimes things sent standard/recorded do go missing so you wouldn't be 100% sure you'd been conned. I learned the hard way, lost over £400 in my first ever internet deal cos the seller only sent it standard (or didn't most likely).
If its lost in the post he, the sender should get the post claim form filled in and sent, if his used first class and recorde he will only get back ten times the first class stamp about £40. He still owes you your cash back. Not accepting responsibilty for the loss of mail is the sellers fault. This does depend on what kind of postage you asked for and paid for as well.

Exactly my thoughts. Special Delivery is next day guarenteed
Baseball bat and a knock at 7am will do the trick ,before u nip down ask him what car he drives most people give up when a bat has been put in the front screen as they start at a hundred quid -)
My local post office won't let me send anything recorded if it's worth over £30 odd, has to be SD or they won't put it through
Mine will let me, but they ask how much the parcel is worth and tell me that it is insured for only 30-odd quid.
you've not got a leg to stand on if you paid by paypal gift
That's what I would have thought as well. maybe if you had paid for it as goods then you would be able to claim but as a gift I doubt it very much.
