Working in Belgium this week - Preconceptions were that it was gonna be shit... So far, nice place, can hold my own in Francais, food very nice, buildings look cool (far better housing design than the UK) but overall the beer is wicked !! Leffe Blonde amongst others - easy drinking but fook me they're all well over 5% !! Good times - luckily in an estate so raided the supermarche tonight init :-) Pissed rant over ...
Best beer in the world. Try and taste some of the smaller, independent breweries you can't easily find outside Belgium while you're there. I'd recommend a gueuze like Cantillon if you want something different.
Get some of that Duvel down yer neck. I'd never heard of it till i were working in Antwerp a few years back. Went out with a customer and another contractor i were working with and they introduced me to it. Now, they had both drank this Duvel before where as it was something new to me, fuck me it's only a half i said, drinking three to their one. I had to crawl on my hands and knees up the stairs of my hotel that night............. It's fucking lethal.
Its all about the Belgian beer. Duvel is a great specimen of fine ale. Also, Delerium Tremens is a beaut and there is also some beer which they leave to naturally ferment over years which almost tastes like cider.

Is Kwak served in a round bottomed glass with a small wooden stand to sit it?
Bar I used to drink in when I lived in London did all the Belgians, each beer had its own glass etc. The Kwak beer with the wooden stand needed a deposit as when the bar first opened they all walked within a few weeks.
