Had a great day out in Manchester today with Thom for a bit of networking, was surprised to see Thomas St Post Office closing down, nothing much caught my eye in the shops, but i was very surprised to see some of the prices for some of the vintage gear, like Izod's touching a ton, way over imo, not too sure who pays these prices and no wonder there is hardly anybody in these places. Over than that was a lovely day and good to see the Schalke fans in fine voice throughout the day...
Did you go to the match mate, or just explored the town?
No my man, wasn't over for the match, just a browse around Northern Qtr and back home, lovely day for it though, Thom was chatting to a few lads in Oi who were going though,
enjoyed the day all round but i did think they were taking the piss with the prices in both 'bags of flavor' and 'bionic7'. How they get away with charging 120 for a sierra design park when you can pick them up for ebay for 30-40 is beyond me and i did say that too. Even the bike in Oi seemed to piss me off. No good parts on it at all, its never felt a much as a gimmick in the past but i was disappointed by the whole 'shopping experience' side of thing.

Really? What makes it so great? A few decent bars, couple of alright shops, but best place in England?
Read the "ive been in" and youll get the message. It's the vibe I like. Nothing more nothing less.
Oh right, never really noticed much of a vibe. Nice enough area mind, horrible at the weekend though, and far too quiet in the week.
Is anybody interested in a 'shopping experiece' anymore though? Can't remember the last thing I bought in store.
I agree with you and I buy most of my clothes online, but I gotta admit I enjoy a good "shopping experience" once in a while. I often pop in Albam just for a small chat, enjoy some of the music they play and once in a while that ends with me walking out with something completely unnecessary.
The category of the prosumer commodity does not signify a democratization of the media towards participatory systems, but the total commodification of human creativity

You might have a point there mate. Copenhagen is busy at times but I had to get used to the vibe in different areas in London, I'm still surprised once in a while 'cause it definitely is something else, and often much better, than back home.

I lost the buzz for shopping in store a long time ago, mainly because I knew what you could get certain items for and how much shops rip people off. The introduction of End hunting lodge as a decent force in Newcastle sort of restored the faith somewhat but I'd still rather spend a couple of hours online shopping with good discounts and the rest of the time down the boozer, as oppose to scouring a town centre all day at RRP.

Picked up a vimto chew bar, bottle of coke and some saucy bbq space raiders from fig tree news today, the lad threw in a free plazzy bag, can't fault the service there
Those vintage shops price high expecting to be knocked down. They're also not really aimed at people who use the internet that much. It depends how you look at it too....people will pay £449 for that Woolen Mills parka but the type of jacket it's based on at £120 is expensive. On that basis I can see why they're able to charge that much. Not everyone knows ebay like the back of their hand.
In general, the NQ is miles busier than is has been in years, even during the week Thomas Street is pretty busy in comparison to how it used to be. At weekends it's become an extension to the cuntfest that is the Printworks though. Used to enjoy a quiet drink around there at weekends but now it's all hen parties from Todmorden and groups of sted heads from Wigan.
