Homeless not just out your box on electric smarties and powder.Thankfully not,but seen it happen to good guys over the years, would hate to get in that position,a lot of ex squaddies end up on the streets, which after you consider what they have done for us is unfair.
I was kicked out when i was 15 and lived around hostels and spent time on the streets in my early teens, I was rebelious and you know something I wouldnt change a thing and the experience has got me where i am today, Yes its hard and the reality is its a very vulnerable place among alcoholics and people with no morals/dignity. But you grow up fast, you have to or you end up ruined. Spent the best part of my teenage years on the street or in temporary one night hostels, I spent time in Manchester, Leeds and Oldbury on the streets and come across some characters. It shaped my life, granted i had other issues. I couldnt hold a tenancy down, and I didnt really want to looking back, a lot of folk choose to be homeless nowadays believe it or not, they have no responsibility, Through my experince it gave me the courage to quit a dead end job and work for the homeless as a substance misuse officer. Now I wouldnt have got that job if it wasnt for my life experience. In that role we had ex chief of security aids from Iraq who had fucked up big time with drugs and ended up loosing everything and millionaires who too had lost the plot, sometimes through no fault of their own. Its a harsh world out there I have moved onto better things but realise just how much stigma been homeless carries or how they are judged when sometimes its just not in their make up to do anything about it.
I got kicked out at 17 and spent a few months in a hostel, it was quite an experience, it was a hostel for 16 -25's, nearly everyone in there had a drug/alcohol problem and there were fights/trouble every night, nearly all were from the local council estates and it really reinforced what I already believed, that people are products of their environment. I met some very fascinating people and got some good friends out of it and I wouldn't change the experience if I could start over.
