I've read countless books on Dylan and the bloke literally worshipped Guthrie, although I have never been a big fan of Guthrie's music I suppose he was very relevant within his generation and at his peak.
I'm not a great fan to be honest. His influence is greater than his music to me. I reckon that one of the major issues is the quality of the sound recordings he left - they have a lot of soul, and display some real talent but at times they seem almost unlistenable. Same goes for Robert Johnson and (to a lesser extent considering he's up there with my favourite singers) Abner Jay
