A massive influence on Robert Zimmerman.

His name has been mentioned loads lately because of Dylan, made me put on Dust Bowl Ballads for the first time in years.

No Guthrie could have possibly meant no Dylan, Springsteen, Joe Strummer...

I've read countless books on Dylan and the bloke literally worshipped Guthrie, although I have never been a big fan of Guthrie's music I suppose he was very relevant within his generation and at his peak.

I'm not a great fan to be honest. His influence is greater than his music to me. I reckon that one of the major issues is the quality of the sound recordings he left - they have a lot of soul, and display some real talent but at times they seem almost unlistenable. Same goes for Robert Johnson and (to a lesser extent considering he's up there with my favourite singers) Abner Jay
