That is all well and good but like I posted in the opening thread, Paul Scholes was always under-rated in this country anyway. I'm not sure individual awards given to Gerrard in games Scholes didn't play in are saying much but anyway. And goal of the season? That is scraping the barrel. And Gerrard has probably won a lot more individual awards than Iniesta but I know who the better player is. He's also scored way more goals than Xavi, but I know who is streets ahead in terms of being a footballer and it ain't Gerrard.
There is one reason why I'd put Scholes above Gerrard all day long. His football brain. The current crop of best players in the world think Scholes is a cut above....that will do for me.

Saves me typing that. Pretty much spot on for me. Scholes didn't court the publicity like englands saviour David Beckham, he was not what us brits love in a player either eg shouty on the pitch but did his job imperiously.
I'm not really sure of all this pressure, I'm never gonna lose any of my old letters, 'Cause they'll stay with me, Until I can see that I'm no one

Alright lads looks like we re gonna have to agree to disagree. Still rather have Gerrard in my team .
Well, I tell them there's no problem Only solutions
Even tho a Man u player Player Paul Scholes is a credit to the game in my opinion in the way he conducts himself off the pitch a model prodffesional. On the pitch a Top draw player one of the best . But better than Steven Gerrard Id have to strongly disagree Gerrard has carried a poor liverpool team for years , whereas Scholes has played with some top draw players
Yes RVP's Left Boot, I am sure Mr Scholes is sitting in his house now thinking "I had a great career and won ten league titles as well as lots of other cups, but I sure wish I won as many individual awards as Gerrard has". You are crazy.

Just using the list of individual awards which highlights what is my personal opinion that Steven Gerard is and has been a Better all round player than Paul Scholes. Simple mate not Crazy.

It is crazy I am afraid my man. Maybe at a push you would be able to say that if both players performed at 100% Gerrard is better, but Mr Scholes has been playing at such a high level for the past fifteen years. Gerrard has never performed as consistently well as Mr Scholes.
Zitat von RVP's Left FootAgain all down to personal opinion. Nobodys gonna win this one. Always have Gerrard before Scholes every time my man.
Is a good discussion about winning ? I don't think it is, really. About Scholes vs. Gerrard, really no comparison. It's a team game, not an individual effort who wins the most trophys. Scholes was one of United's most important players in all the 10 titles he won, being one of the most consistant players I've seen. Based on "team-play" (which isn't a small thing, really), I would pick Scholes.
And although I go to United games now and again, I am not biased at all.
I agree in maybe a one off game where you are guaranteed to get 100% out of the player I would have Gerrard, but football is not like this. Over the past few years I cannot see how you would not say Mr Scholes has been the better performer. I think he is the best EPL player of all time. Then after him Henry (seen him destroy the whites too many times to mention!).
Seriously Gerrard against AC Milan fianl Gerrard won us the european cup, Fa Cup Fianl against West Ham got us back on his own , Gerrard is a better player in my opinion hands down
You proved my point - they are two games. One against a shit team who had Hislop in goal. Mr Scholes has been fantastic every season for fifteen years.

If you actually check on Scholes record for the last four/five seasons hes been a bit of a squad player at United. His goals tally for last six seasons is 3, 7 , 2 , 3 , 7 , 1 in all competitions - so league and all cups. Playing for a team like Man Utd and all the chances he must get as an attacking midfielder hardly say its the form of the best player in England.
Well, I tell them there's no problem Only solutions
Yeah but he didn't play as an attacking midfielder towards the end of his career did he. As he grew up he moved further back and was more of playmaker opposed to an attacking midfielder. If you're down and out and you need someone to score something out of nothing or to inspire your team then Gerrard every time but if you're talking about who has had a better career i'd say Scholes.

I refer you to schmiceals quote in the first post. A good player is someone you notice when they are having a shit game, a great player is someone you don't. You notice gerard when he is playing mince. You never noticed scholes.

Go and check how many goals Iniesta and Xavi have scored over the years. Then check how many 'assists' they have. And look at the team they play in. You will be amazed. Just goes to prove that football is not always about stats.
Vasque your right mate with Xavi and Iniesta. Scholes was a great player for Man Utd and England and probably never got the full recognition that he deserved outwith OT. For me though always wanted Arsene to make an offer for Steve Gerrard as few years ago thought he was best player in EPL when Roy Keane was past his sell by date. Thouht Gerrard would have been perfect when Vieria went. But fair play to Scholes a player you have to admire and respect for all he achieved and the way he conducted himself over the years. One of the best but not the best.
Well, I tell them there's no problem Only solutions
I liked scholes for a lot of the reasons already mentioned. Best player ever in the EPL? highly debatable. Better than Gerard? maybe, maybe not. arguments for both. Surprised the Gerard camp haven't mentioned the fact that Scholes gave up International football at 29 which would have contributed to his longevity. There's no doubt though that Scholes is rated by some of the biggest names in football and that's definitely something you have to note. I would draw the line at this 'he had everything' which I've heard numerous times on radio/tv when he clearly didn't. He couldn't tackle or his tackling was poor at times. Either way, he didn't have "everything" in that case but still, what a player. If I'm correct, he didn't have an agent either? (perhaps the MU lads can confirm this????) used to negotiate his own contracts? If that's correct, yet another reason to like him. Someone who understands how lucky he was to get well paid to play football for Man U for a living. humility that is which is sadly lacking in football nowadays.
best EPL player ever? I always think the one player who I'd have in my team given the pick of anyone in EPL history (and non-chelsea to avoid bias) would probably have been Roy Keane. But surely Henry and Shearer warrant mentions given their consistent goalscoring. Henry did things that were mind boggling whilst Shearers consistency with goals in an often poor side puts him up there. But it's all down to personal opinion.
So its Gian-Fran-Co Zooooooola for me
