Considering the utter fucking gash in the music charts tell me some underrated bands. I'll start. As well known as they are the genius that is British Sea Power is underrated to the point that I worry about decent music.
I'm not really sure of all this pressure, I'm never gonna lose any of my old letters, 'Cause they'll stay with me, Until I can see that I'm no one
Surely it depends as to what benchmark you consider a band as being rated or not? Record sales? Concert attendance figures? longevity of said bands life? If being rated was to be popular with the yoot' of today nurtured on a culture of instantaneous itunes downloads and who are led cattle like into the buying pen by the whim of brain washers like Simon Cowell. Then I for one would run like hell away from ratings.
Eg - Teenage Fanclub has always been high regarded/rated by a lot of people and have released records over quite a considerable timespan and are frequently listed in top 100 albums charts. They have released records over a lot longer period than a lot of todays 'rated' bands will. The same with BSP. Again Ween are a band I have recently posted in WYLT and which I was made aware of many years ago have always rated. And GBV have seemingly been around for a bit.
If indeed I was pushed I would say The Sea And Cake but that group is made of exemplary solo artists within it in Sam Prekop and Archer Prewitt are they underated too? I rate them highly? But I would expect say a Heavy Metal fan to have never have heard of them let alone rate them and vice versa.
I agree with BSP, tragically brilliant. Ocean colour scene, The seahorses both never given the credit they deserved. And not forgetting The Rifles. Proper music. Lady gaga? JLS? Oh please. This subject makes me angry. Some people don't deserve ears.
