My time in the F.F.L. we scaled the Alps a few times . Best way to start is small , not sure where you live , but visit an area of hills/peaks , and start climbing , see if you like it . Then best to visit Wales , Breacon Beakons , climb there . The Alps is a fantastic region to visit , beautiful place , but you need to take some lessons , and definately buy the right gear . Not sure if you need to apply to climb it , worth looking into as well . Worth doing fella , lifetime experience .
Good on you H Know a few people who have done Killamanjaro recently. If you train properly I don't think the actual climbing is much of an issue as the climbs are well phased and supervised. It's more how your body reacts to the altitude. You can train for 12 months only to get half way up and be told you're not going any further

Same here. A group of mates did a charity walk up there. Which they all completed without much problem. Not an impossible dream if you use a bit of common sense in regard to planning.

Even the world's best succumb to altitude. Fascinating stuff really when you read about it.
