I really wouldn't bother with the Trafford centre for anything else but your Christmas shopping, for which, I suppose it's ok. Worth getting the bus into town one day if your after clothes, records, good cafes, and a pint. I don't know which food hall you're on about in the Arndale, the one in the middle is your standard McDonalds shite, but the one at the back buy the market has some nice places, different cuisines etc.
With the bairn and missus so just be trafford centre. Staying in a premier inn down that way. Might venture up to city centre before home. Quite familiar with the city
Trafford centre pretty ordinary mate, selfridges worth a look, barton square ok for homewares , the orient has some decent restaurants, if you was going later on in the year i,d say get into the city centre in the evening for the european markets , open air ice rink at spinningfields for the nipper
