Been a long while since I last DJ'd (only ever CDs, mind), and have since got rid of all my gear. Last couple of weeks I've filled in for a mate and found myself burning CDs left right and centre. Seems a bit of a ball ache these days, as I'm sure there's some software out there that's a fraction of the cost, with a lot more flexibility.
Been looking around, and there's loads. I've used Ableton in the past for live stuff, but that was more my own music, loops, etc. Is that still one of the best in the industry?
I'd also be looking for something with which I could use a midi controller. Oh, and it has to be Mac compatible.
Logic, as in, the sequencer/workstation? Hadn't realised people were using that kind of software. I used to use Logic, Cubase (wank), and Pro Tools when writing my own stuff and recording etc.
I bought a piece of equipment that plugged from my laptop to the mixer and could use the channels etc for a party 2 months back, what a pile of shit, didn't test it first and that and just plugged it all in and used it, just garbage mate and it's no fun whatsoever, my only time at trying it and my last you just can't beat hands on, it's up to you but if you like playing around with the beats and samples and being creative etc then laptop dj'ing will not be for you, it's shit in my humble opinion but were all different. and burning cdrs is a fraction of what a good set up would cost you mate, its only a pack of cds a week £10.
ive never actually seen one in the flesh, or known anyone to have one. but i think the concept is that you basically plug 2 ipods in and use their tracklists.... think they are only like £200......

Autocue, as in, you just press a button and it cues and syncs it for you? I assumed that the control'd be the same really, looking at some of the midi controllers they look pretty similar to what I had previously used with CDs.

See, it was my assumption that, with all the new technology knocking around, Djing on a laptop would give me the most access to creative effects. I thought you'd be able to get about 15 tracks going at once and drop in and out of all sorts, like you can do on Ableton. Perhaps we aren't at that stage yet.
