My little lad Sam who`s 8 yr old got this for his home work , and i can t do it !!
Katie had a pack of twenty cards numbered from 1 to 20 , she arranged the cards into six unequal piles . the numbers on the cards in each pile added to the same total what was the total and how could this be done ?
I know what the total for each pile would be but how the ***K , can you get 6 unequal piles ???
Quote by IBC^ i googled it and that solution came up, but you have 3 piles with 2 cards in each ?
I think its just the way the question is worded. Im guessing rather than it meaning all 6 piles have to be different it actually just means that all 6 cant be the same which is obvious anyway.
Have to agree on this, craply worded question..........had a few in the old GCSEs that were badly written. It would appear that to write maths questions your English doesn't have to be great or logical........ As i read though it seems like it's asking that each stack has a value based on the cards number.........so the stacks would have to be uneven because each card is numbered differently.... So the total of all cards is 210, and that divided 6 is 35. Then thats as far as I have got...............becauase I have 'man flu' and feel like shite..... ha ha.
My lads are the same they tought to read and write etc completely differently to how we were tought . I find it really embarressing but fortunatly my eldest is a "bod" and is very clever if not autistic , plays chess for yorkshire and has taught himself to play the piano (NOT got a fuckin clue never had one!) and his now piano teacherb says he's a genius so he helps the youngest FFS !SHAMEFUL ! Ads. Oh ! but on a bad side he's at Sheff.Untd for training on a saturday
