Several foreign-owned Premier League clubs want to scrap relegation, according to League Managers Association chief Richard Bevan.
If more clubs are sold to foreigner investors, they may have enough votes to force through the change.
But Bevan hopes that a government-led inquiry can help prevent the proposal.
"We're very keen that the report is successful in helping the Football Association introduce a licensing programme for clubs," he said.
"Because there are a number of overseas-owned clubs already talking about bringing about the avoidance of promotion and relegation in the Premier League.
"If we have four or five more new owners, that could happen."
The Premier league has become something of a cash cow for foreign investors in recent years, You can't blame them for looking after their investments. Relegation would be a financial disaster for them, where else could you run up millions of pounds worth of debt and still operate.
Can't see it happening and let's face it the bottom half of the season in the run up to the final games has been more exiting than the title 'race'

Oh yeah this stupid idea is definitely all about money and protecting what they've got and if enough foreign owners eventually get together and vote for this then I can't see how it could be stopped. It's got fuck all to do with the government.
Liverpool have recently been banging on about how the foreign TV money should be an individual thing instead of equally shared out as it is now. The American owners were staggered when they realised more people watched United v Liverpool games worldwide than watched the Superbowl and yet they only received the same amount of money as Wigan, Bolton etc etc. These foreign owners will eventually put English football out of its misery but in truth it's been slowly dying for years anyway.
If there was no relegation, there d be no football, because it wouldnt matter if you lost all of your games, and players would show even less commitment than they do now..
Stupid idea, as is the individual TV rights. It will create another league like La Liga, with 2 teams (or 4ish in the case of the Prem) winning it year after year after year and they will be the only ones signing the best players.

whereas now we have, oh hang on.
Well the gap between our top 2 and the rest is nothing compared to La Liga. Nobody fancies going away to places like Stoke or Everton, they aren't easy places to win at. Last year was the most competitive PL for years, not just at the top of the table, but at the bottom too. And teams like Tottenham also sign world class players, VDV for example. With individual TV rights Man Utd and probably Liverpool would more than likely have the most money to spend, especially with the fair play financial rules coming into play soon.
The SPL only has one down (the only league in Europe that does that as far as I am aware) and that is boring enough. Relegation is as much a part of football as is being champions and can often provide more excitement than the top end of the table.

try telling that to the new breed of fan who'd rather watch united vs liverpool each week. I reckon this would just be the beginning, give it 10 years and there'll be a european super league with massive clubs playing exhibition games in Hong Kong, LA, Abu Dhabi etc
