This is getting beyond a joke now. The league clubs were told in no uncertain terms to sign this EPPP agreement or lose out on funding which the premier league provides at the moment. It's bad enough as it is but this will guarantee that every talented lad will be at a premier league club and bought for peanuts. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Football is definitely going the wrong way and has been since the start of the Premier League., Plenty of young lads may never get the chance because of this deal, and some clubs will go under if they cant sell their youngsters for a decent price.
Makes you wonder why the smaller clubs would even bother with a youth academy if any young star they find will get taken off them for virtually nowt. Who the fuck comes up with these shit ideas?
Aye this is an absolute disgrace, effectively means the majority of league clubs will be become one big scouting system/academy for the top 10 teams in England. What's the point of spending millions on good quality facilities and coaching if all you're going to get for your prize assett youngster is a couple of hundred grand?
As a Sheff Utd supporter it's fair to say we've brought some decent stuff through the academy over the previous ten years with Jags and Kyle Walker being two obvious highlights, not sure that would happen with the new system. It's bad news for the clubs as the gap will just keep getting bigger and bigger for the top few, and it's also bad news for all the young talent as there's a much bigger chance they'll end up on the scrap heap. When you think of the amount of lads that show promise these days, get bought up by a club when they're about 16 and then end up rotting in their reserves, maybe playing one carling cup game a season and being farmed out on loan before eventually being sold to some 3rd rate championship club - I can only see that kind of thing happening on a much wider scale.
Footy's been going down the pan for a while but i really think this could start to spell the end for a lot of clubs, hopefully all the big guns will fuck off and create a euro league in the next ten years and then we might start to get a sense of perspective again. As for now though, Scudamore and all the other money-grabbing cunts deserve some wickerman-style ceremonial burning in a massive wooden Prem trophy, the bastards.
The rich get richer which suits the FA which suits UEFA which suits FIFA. None of which suits the smaller clubs but the body which is supposed to help and protect them couldnt really give a flying fuck about them. No spare cash and less of a gravy train in the lower leagues. And ultimately yet higher prices on the cost of a ticket. Fuck em
