Just came home from work, only to hear a friend of my sister got killed in a traffic accident yesterday... She was riding a bicycle and got hit by a car, died on the spot... Truly heartbroken to hear it.
She was only 22, may she find peace in the place where she is now.
Reading stuff like this makes me think about how dangerous it is to be on two wheels. I always tell myself to take more care out there, because you never know whats out there.
I see a fella every day when i drive to work, riding what looks like not a cheap mountain bike type thing. He fucking bombs it in and out of the traffic and hammers it most of the way on the 6 miles i drive to work. Thing is he doesn't have a helmet. I feel like pulling him off his bike the stupid cunt. I saw him when we had the snow last year, cycling down the middle of the road inbetween the two carriage ways, skidding all over the place and still no helmet!!
Anyway sorry for the rant/story, my thoughts are with the poor girls family.
@ Wrighty, Can imagine, it's mainly about being aware of your surroundings when on a bike though. Although I'm pretty sure England doesn't have the facilities for Bikers (bike lanes on all roads including sorting strips and the lot) that the Netherlands have. l
Literally nobody really wears helmets here I must say, but she got hit by a 19-year-old speeding driver at about 50-60 miles per hour where you're allowed to drive about 30 MPH. The police research is still ongoing, so can't really point any fingers yet, but that's what the witnesses say though.... No helmet or protection would save you from that kind of collision.
Ditto all the above - sorry for your loss... As a keen cyclist myself I've experienced more than a comfortable amount of instances that I usually laugh about when in the office. Wrong really, should wear a helmet too for the sake of my girls if nothing else... RIP
