Not all religious behaviour is bad I know and some find great comfort from it but when you hear of stuff like this it does your head in. I firmly believe the people responsible for this want locking up.
I grew up from a very early age up to the age of 11 forced to be part of the Jehovah's Witnesses when my old man went through a mad repenting period of his life, there is no good in religion, but that's just my opinion, lives were lost through the period I was part of it through their belief's and being told you shouldn't have blood transfusion's when your on death's door. Too much bullshit, rape, child molestation, hypocritical bollocks and murder goes on through religion for it to ever be considered a good thing.
it's an easy way out for those that commit sick practises .. I know , i'll beat fuck out me wife , get shitfaced , spend the mortgage money gambling - but if I repent on Sunday , God will wipe the slate clean .. bit dramatic yes , but imagine fair few live by this ' code of practise ' .
I'm not so sure pal. I think there is good in Religion. In no way am I religious, but I go to church once a month (so we can get married there, misses has her heart set on it). I think it's the same with everything, there are always a minority who take things to extremes. I don't see how a few dozen folk going to church once a week, organising events for charity, taking OAPs on trips, helping out local schools, etc. can be a bad thing.

That's nothing to do with church though or religion as such that is just genuinely nice people in the world who channel themselves through the church because they think that's the way to do it, I know plenty who do similar and volunteer but in their own way, as I said it's only my opinion but it's bollocks mate, they prey on the weak minded and weak hearted, They've approached me while I was in the cemetary and tried to talk to me about my dead son (that they read on the stone from behind me) while I was having a moment and bombarded me with how would I like to see him again in paradise when I die, basically devote myself to god for the rest of my life and it will happen, how sick is that, imagine how many people get pulled while grieving, I detest religion mate, sorry if this offends but while people are murdering each other over different religious view's and back grounds and the fact that there is so many different religion's who are they supposed to believe ?

Totally agree but the link I put up and the experiences of The Individual as a young lad prove that religion can also be truly harmful. The way the Catholic church behaved in Africa was shameful and yet when this is pointed out to catholics they tell you of the good the catholic church does as if that makes it alright. Same with the noncing priests.

Completely agree with you. Believe in something what is really there; yourself.

As much as I dislike Organised Religion I do respect other people's views and their right to worship etc - as long as they don't try to shove them down people's necks. My own take on (organised) religion is that it's a controlling mechanism - making sure we don't just run riot on the few years we have just in case we have to pay for it in the next life - such bullshit. Religion was once viewed as an early form of science but the advances in proper scientific research have all but blown religion out of the water. Most of the western world is now atheist (Religion is no longer the Opium of the Masses) and I couldn't think of a more atheist country than England. The abuses that took place under the mask of religion the world over are unforgivable and I wouldn't blame anyone for having negative attitudes towards religion in general. In Ireland all the good work of decent Clerical and Religious people in Education, Health, Local sport and so on has all been undermined, and then some, by the actions of the depraved, sick, greedy, warped minority. Religion? I can do without it. If people can get something personal out of it, well good for them.
J W believe on the day of Judgement , when you stand at the gates of St Peter , you need to be pure .. or suffer eternal damnation .. hence no blood transfusions .. to see your child die because of this , in my opinion , is criminal ..

No offence taken, and I didn't intend any either. I can only make judgement on my own experience on the matter. Of course religion has been the cause if many atrocities, and your experience was as evil as any by the sounds of it. Shocking practices (as per the title).
