It's getting worse Steve.....AVB looks like a rabbit caught in the headlights. That said I'm afraid many of our players just aren't good enough to compete with the Manchester clubs and Barca and Real in Europe. I really think Napoli will knock us out next round of the cl as well. Teams don't fear Chelsea any more and the club is in a constant state of flux. You reap what you sow though and years of mismanagement from the top down added to the fact that the proper overhaul of the squad that fans have been calling out for over the past 2 to 3 years has never happened. Sure, there's been spending but there was never a logical, strategically planned overhaul. As a result, the blend, balance and dynamics of the squad are all wrong and there's a distinct lack of quality. Don't expect things to improve anytime soon.
I'd like to comment by saying I'm not bothered , but I am , deeply . Mis management by Abramovich ? Or where would we have been had he not came in . The luxury of winning titles and being regarded as up there was very distant in my day . Todays team sums us up though , group of players paid way too much , can't even get up for Fulham / Wigan / Villa . Were I to perform like that at work i'd be out .
So where do we go from here ? Couple of signings that will paper over the cracks , few more games like today , and another manager gone ? Me , I'd like a complete overhaul , get rid of the dross , get some young talented players in , and rebuild .
