Need some help, looking to finally buy some decks and mixing/recording equipment but have no idea where to start or look. To say im basically clueless would be correct so the simplest all in one package that could be recommended would be great..... Hopefully not for too much either! After having a look around myself this is what i would consider the best so far... http://www.thedjshop.co.uk/packages/numa...dj-package.html
I use Vinyl, CD and Iphone but mostly Vinyl and Iphone/mp3. Iv always used a vintage record player for my stuff and docking stations but would like to move up and on more.
Tbh Depending on how far you want to go with it, I would say if your serious and going to make it your serious hobby then might as well buy the best cause you will end up doing so in the long run, and they will last, There are lots of good decks out there, Technics are just the industry standard, Your obviously going to be learning to read sound and key changes so good needles and amp set up is very important, delivering a crisp sound can be more difficult than actual Djing itself, If its just as a pastime and you not sure where your going with it then buy what your budget allows, but You wont lose much if buying top end equipment, I learned Cd mixing on a homemix set would you believe after I had Dj'd vinyl for fair few years mind. So it aint just about the equipment. The basics are easy in my opinion the art comes in setting the mood and been able to program music, It can seem never ending but if you persist and your passionate and most of all if you enjoy it, then it will come. At the end of the day if you want to Dj you can do it on whatever you buy, Djin is very enjoyable but takes time and effort, Jees I remember spending literally all day programming and playing music ages ago getting lost in the music which again is another key skill, feeling it.
Like Offhand says. It al depends on how far you want to go with it. If you just keeping it as a spare-time hobby than you can use that one. But otherwise I prefer Pioneer cdj. If you want to spend less you could go for citronix. For the use with vinyl I would choose technics.

From what you've said I'd drop the docking station/iPod, get your music on a decent latop (partion your hard-drive if you can't afford a new one) and use Serato with some technics.

Is that the same idea as time coded vinyl??? always used vinyl, never jumped on the cdj bandwagon all though i can see why it happened.....A mate came over to the house this week showing me this time coded stuff, well impressive i must say

Yeh exactly mate time coded vinyl. Saves the hassle of carrying records around and the expense of buying vinyll.
I would buy nice deck's to be honest mate, as Ja' say's if you do sell them for any reason you won't really lose much money on them then. Technics 1200 / 1210's for turntables but there are other option's, Technics are also making their turntables extinct soon so try ebay for a decent pair or a second hand shop or cash converters etc and try them out before you buy, again as Ja' say's put some cash into your needles. Pioneers cdj800's 900's 1000mk3's or 2000's are all superb. Don't scrimp on your mixer either if you can afford it. If you buy cheap decks and end up loving it you will only upgrade eventually.
Quote by maclufcI f you use an Ipod/Iphone then you are not a DJ...
If the crowd are dancing I don't think anyone really gives a shit right? Once if you used CDJs you weren't a DJ. Then if you used a latop you weren't a DJ. Not saying I'd ever use a iPod but it's essentially just a hard-drive in the context of a set up, a way to transport media.

DJ=Disc-Jockey, no Discs, no Jockey you re just a music player if you just push s few buttons, might as well just have compilation CDs playing..

It's the same end product / output though even if you're using vinyll. Vinyll is the' coolest' way to go though I'd agree with you on that but money / practicality etc mean it's a dying art
