Lads, need some help here, my wife turns 40 in March and of course I want to do something really nice for her. I want to take her away either on a City break or 5 days to the Canaries etc, etc. She's really frugel with the cash and won't want me spending loads, but she really is an absoloute gem. In April we've been maried 20 years and we started off as kids with nothing and now haven't done to bad for ourselves with a cracking 19 year old son. She's put up with a lot in them 20 yrs, my clothes buying, me working away and in the early days my football misdemeanours. Some cracking ideas would be appreciated lads.

ha!
you could do a lot worse than a few days in lisbon. beautiful city, great booze, nice locals, short flight. bruges is also ace. astoundingly good beer, ace food, great place to walk around and its on the eurostar (you might just get the cheap fares). we stayed in the ibis, which is a cracking location in bruges and would defo tick the frugal box.
City break in Paris, cheap to get there and great city, did it with my missus a few years back, splashed out and did two nights in the Ritz, still getting brownie points from it

Paris, Rome or Berlin mate
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
At work at the minute but will get it to you later on
worth checking the prices booked separatelty for those deals. they were advertised in the guardian last year but we foundit was a fair bit cheaper booking it all ourselves - about £70 i think
Quote by GelseThere was a deal in the Metro the other day for 3 nights in Bruges for 2, including Eurostar for £288. (3* Hotel in the middle of Bruges aswell)
I booked one for me and the little lady. Will try and find the website if your interested chap?
"Ken, I grew up in Dublin. I love Dublin. If I grew up on a farm, and was retarded, Bruges might impress me but I didn't, so it doesn't."
"There's a Christmas tree somewhere in London with a bunch of presents underneath it that'll never be opened. And I thought, if I survive all of this, I'd go to that house, apologize to the mother there, and accept whatever punishment she chose for me. Prison... death... didn't matter. Because at least in prison and at least in death, you know, I wouldn't be in fuckin' Bruges. But then, like a flash, it came to me. And I realized, fuck man, maybe that's what hell is: the entire rest of eternity spent in fuckin' Bruges. And I really really hoped I wouldn't die. I really really hoped I wouldn't die."
Take her through to the witchery in Edinburgh for a couple of nights. Quit expensive to stay but guarantee she will not want to be leaving the "room" She will love it!!

Grew up in Plymouth, just over the water from Cornwall. Beautiful part of the country, but big problems with low wages, high property prices and poor transport links. Many people leave which is sad but understandable. Almost none of my friends live in Devon/Cornwall any more.
