Quote by BDBZakinthos or zakynthos, however you might spell it. I mean:
I've been to that beach, you cant tell from picture but its all bloody pebbles and there is a lot of oil in the sea due to the amount of visiting tourist boats , shame cause it always looks fantatic in the photos.
Absolutely love the Greek islands. To be honest there are quiet places to stay on most of them. Kefalonia is lovely; as above. We went to Ithaca a couple of years ago which is very very quiet. We loved it but some might find it a bit boring. Great restaurants, no 'lager tourists', but not cheap. Try ionianislandholidays.com . I've been booking holidays with them for years and they have some lovely properties.
agreed, lovely place, haven't been there for over 10 years, but it was very quiet & cheap when I went - got a 3 course lobster meal for two with wine for £25, sure that prices have risen with the introduction of the euro though

Yeah the switch to the Euro did put prices up and funnily enough Kefalonia was always considered as one of the more expensive of the Greek islands. Me and the missus have been half a dozen times or so but we've not been for the past five years. I'll go back though.
Used to go a lot to Greek islands. Also some quiter resorts on mainland greece. Halkidiki was one I remember being mroe of a fimily resort with lots of bars and places to eat but without the 18-30 crowd.
Naxos. The gateway To Apollo's Temple at sunset takes some beating. I travelled round a few of the islands in the Cyclades on the decommissioned ferries they have out there, and Naxos was the best. If you want to stay in an authentic guesthouse look up Despina Pantelou.
