I received payment for an item yestarday and told buyer I would send it out today. However I got an email from PayPal saying:
"You have received a payment that we believe may not have been authorised by the PayPal account holder. Here are the details of the transaction we are investigating:" etc.
I have the guy's address and that, luckily I saw the email before the item was sent.
I take it he is trying to pull a fast one, hoping I had sent it out already before saying to PayPal it wasn't him who authorised it?
I don't know what to do to resolve it though, as I have to give a tracking number in order to resolve - which I obviously don't have as I haven't sent it yet. And I don't want to send it now in case I send it but still don't get the coin...

I don't think i'd send it now if I were you.
have you contacted the potential buyer to see if its a genuine mix up at his end ?
^^yeah contact the buyer to see if he knows anything, at least to explain the delay. I had it before and if you prove postage you 'should' get your money, but if your not happy conceal the order. You can ring paypal and ask them to explain and what their advice would be.
