It seems all the cock sucking to Lord Coe and his entourage have come to nothing. Stuart Pearce has taken the decision not to include him in the squad.
wrong , he's a class act still capable of that bit of magic on the pitch , not like we are falling over ourselves with players of that ilk ... I know he's a 106 , but he still can pass a ball like no other .. imagine he's pretty gutted !
Surprised tbh, agree with Steve's comments above and it would have have been a nice fair well for him after his footballing contributions and his involvement in the Olympic process, I too would imagine he is pretty gutted tbf. I would imagine he could still take a penalty if required.........................

Steve mate, you've kind of hit the nail on the head here. Should he be picked because of his fame, no. Surely it's a case of picking your best players.
Beckham made a decision to go to the States a few years back, not exactly retirement but certainly retirement from top level football.
There was a story in the paper a few weeks ago about Pearce’s squad, he had short listed 10 or so players in the over age category from which he could pick 3. He then met them individually to suss out their feelings towards it, all I believe were Premiership players.
When one was asked if he wanted to take part he said he was 100% if Team GB or whatever they are called were entering with a view to winning it, taking it seriously. When Pearce asked him what he meant by that he said that if Beckham was selected then it was obvious to him as a professional that it was not about winning but about placating sponsorship deals etc.
real good post , and very interesting .. but I still feel Beckham is a class act , his range of passing , and obvious free kick ability makes him a viable player no matter his age or where he is playing ... Belamy a better player than Beckham ? no , I don't think so ...
I think this is the right decision. The Olympics are for many athletes the absolute pinnacle of their career, to even compete shows the hard work and dedication they've put in to reach the top of their field. Having Beckham go simply because of his brand/cache/work during the bid would be pretty insulting to everyone who puts in the hours in training and have made huge sacrifices. As for whether he's good enough - if he wanted to prove he's still a top player he should play in a top league rather than chasing the cash. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
Personally I don't think football should be anywhere near the Olympics but that's another argument all together.
Fair play to Pearce for having the bollocks not to pick him and his media circus I say. We are talking about one of the footballing great's, at least that's what the media would have us believe. This is the guy who sold his arse and moved to the States to seek more fame and a disgustingly obscene amount of fortune to play what is basically pub football. Not that football should be included as an Olympic 'sport' but it's condescending and disrespectful to the hundred's of athlete's who have given up everything to even make an appearance at the games.
Funny how he remembers he's a Landoner when it suit's.

pub football... when i heard this was a main news story today, i thought, beckham? when was he last involved in intl football? didnt think he would even be in the reckoning..
so Pearce claims Beckham simply not good enough , and wanted to pick best / better players available .. really ? just seen the team , they wont beat Lichtenstein .. horseshit !
