I wouldn't write the place off on the basis of a few fascist pricks. I've been 3 times now and it's a pretty good country. Two of those times I was with one of my best mates who's black and we never had any trouble whatsoever. That said, there's a scourge of petty nationalism throughout the former Yugoslavia that seems to ever rise. Serbs throwing Nazi salutes being one particularly ironic symptom, considering that they made up a large portion of the particularly effective partisan army in the second world war.
