I'm after a record player / hi-fi for my new house. I don't really need anything too fancy, but I'd rather it not be some horrible black plastic thing with lights all over it. In reality, all I need it for is to play records, because I listen to music otherwise through my iPod and TV speaker system. Anyway, I don't know if I'm searching for the right words or not but I can't seem to find anything online. Roughly, I want something similar to the picture below, but new, if possible. Any suggestions?
How much do you want to spend? If you're on a budget then Richer Sounds is worth a look. If you want something more aesthetically pleasing then your typical Sony then I think this is the bollocks: http://www.audioaffair.co.uk/Pro-Ject-Xp...le/product_2567 does come at a price though
possibly not the best for sound but they are built to last mine are over 20 years old now and still in tip top condition. I only use one now and have the other in storage just in case.

That's very nice, but pretty far out of my price range. Is £200 unrealistic? I'd need an amp and speakers, too.

Aye, it's a thought, but perhaps out of my price range. Plus, and I don't know, maybe I'm well out here, but the benefits of a 1210 probably won't be all that noticeable to me, I just want to listen to records in my bedroom.
Ebay mate, pick up some decks, 1200's or 1210's per pair going as low as 250. Choose an amp and speakers and you can get a tiny 2 channel mixer fixed to your wall.
That Rega RP1 is exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. Browsing through Google images at it now, and the below set up is similar to what I was thinking. What kind of amplification would be needed for it? I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to home audio.
I'm no help to you mate but will be keeping an eye on this. I asked a while ago and I don't think a budget of £200 will be enough for something decent quality.
So I just need some speakers and the cables to connect to the speakers? Am i right in saying that? And does anyone have any recommendations or even better some for sale.

Cheers for the help lads, and sorry for hijacking the thread kurious. I got the turntable above with the intention of upgrading it, but it's something to get me started.
I have a set of speakers from a cheap hi-fi. They have the standard copper speaker wire with no plugs on the end. Will they plug in the amp? This is what the back looks like.
