Nothing against you(cough) youngsters keeping the music alive, and I m always looking to hear tunes I never heard first time around..

He does have the best Gramophone collection in Britain.
for me, was heavy metal. very late 70s/early 80s - AC/DC, Zep, Sabbath, NWOBHM, Dio, etc...etc....taken directly from what my older brother was into. Still love it all to this day and probably the only genre I make the effort to see bands for. Graduating into teens, etc.....was happy to be around when the acid house, dance and culminating in rave (not sure they're the politically correct titles but you know what I mean ) which, to be honest, was never my favourite sound as I always more prone to drinking than pills although I did my share. The indie/dance/baggy stuff though was good around the late 80s - the Mondays, Primal Scream and of course the Stone Roses which is like a soundtrack to some of the best times of my life. Always remember every monday night at Charlie Hegartys club in Bangor - Come Together 12 inch playing, outta my tree.....Went to see the Roses last year for part music/part nostalgia with mates and I suppose, closed the book on that one.
on thing about ''living'' the era is not reckonising if its special or not at the time. For Heavy Metal, the 80's and especially, the early-mid 80s was exceptional - a real golden era but I was too young to realise and I'm not sure how many did realise that albums like Dio Holy Diver, Sabbath Heaven and Hell, GnR Appetite For Destruction, etc....would stand the test of time back then.

Rap and hip-hop for me. Wu Tang Clan, Dr. Dre , 2pac, NWA. Haven’t listen much to hip-hip since the beginning of 2000. Though still love it for old youthful memories.
North West England Indie guitar music with a leaning toward Merseyside from about 15 onwards. The La's in particular!
By rights I should be a jazz fanatic as my old man is obsessed by the stuff.
Did a bit of 'raving' and clubbing late eighties / early nineties as the indie clubs like the State in Liverpool started play Acid at the end of the night.
Got totally obsessed with Spacemen 3/ Spiritualized and spacerock / dronerock in the latter part of the 80s and that's what I'm mostly listening to at moment- US bands like Moon Duo, Wooden Shjips, White Manna. That said I think the Jake Bugg album is excellent - mainly because it reminds me of going to see the La's when I was 17.
I'm also forced in to listening to One Direction as my kids love them.
Its all about variety!

Nice. I've got 2 girls age 8 and 3 and they are all over one direction too, my youngest Leila is really into music, she comes and dances with me when I'm playing records and will sit there and watch/listen to me when I'm having a mix I love it, it's amazing how much they take in we'll be sitting in the car and she'll just blurt out a little chorus from an old boogie record so I know musically she'll be open to what she wants although I do have to endure when they put on a "show" for us with a dance routine and usually to one direction. Good times.

Same here, one of my lads is very musical and loves sitting watching me play guitar (I'm shite btw). And plays along on his toy acordian he got for Xmas. He nicked my Jake Bugg cd and sings along in the car - bit dodgy if you're familiar with his music as he talks about 'skinning up a phat one' and taking pills and speed etc he also got massively into an old Real People album I've got - he's 4 and a half!
Him and his sister go to Ukele lessons as do their older brother who does it at school!
Love it when they put on a show - goose bumps all round. I then have a big day dream about managing them like John Weller!

A real mixture for me. First single I bough was "I die, you die" by Gary Numan as loved that electronic sound. This brought me into contact with all sorts around then, but my first love and music I turned to then, and turn to now is hip hop.
I still listen to Big Daddy Kane, T La Rock, Ultramagnetics, Chubb Rock, and various others from around that time and love it still. One of the first hip hop tracks I really liked was Egypt Egypt, by Egytian Lover, and that still really sounds good today. If you dropped that in a middle of a set now, old school hip hop heads would go nuts. Really wish I had made more of my turntable skills back in the day. Still regret that now.
Hip Hop still a big part of my music collection, but like I guess most of us, I have some very diverse stuff on my ipod and love a good shuffle!
My lad is 13 next week and is not really into music yet, but will be interested to see which way he goes with it.
I was obsessed with The Jam when I was a kid, days when singles were important and trying to get to the shop on the day of release to get a picture sleeve. Never got to see them as I was a teenage kid in NI and they never came across to play, broke up then before I spread my wings.
Still love seeing Weller now, best part of the gigs for me is when he rolls out the old Jam songs which he is doing on an increasing level.
Band with most songs/albums on my iPod? Yep, The Jam.

Should really move on (up).
My early musical tastes and the reason why I started listening to guitar music was the Jam. I nicked all my sisters Jam singles and a couple of albums and then went nuts on everything he did. Got all the albums and singles plus a few rare flexi discs etc. Never saw the Jam, hated the Style Council didn't mind the Weller Movement (saw them in 1990 at Nottingham Poly) and then saw him at the 100 Club a couple of months back which I enjoyed more than I thought- was there to see Spiritualized primarily). He still had it! Looked mint (vintage Levis etc not those dreadful suits he insists on wearing these days) played a few old Jam tracks notably Art School from In the City - nearly wet myself when he started that!

Club Tropicana drinks are free!
wtf
lol some cunts edited my post, was that you stubbsy lol
The who, kinks, yardbirds ,jam,Paul weller and early Motown ,northern soul and the smiths, early ska ,all float my boat...all take me back to the scooter runs of the 80's.
Eye's right, skin back tight, bollocks to the front, we're the boy's who make more noise when we're on the cunt, we're the riders of the night, and we'd rather fuck than fight, we're the riders of the Clock end Highbury
Our kid was a mod so brought up on the jam, the who, kinks etc along with a smattering of the sex pistols and a bit of punk. Through the 80's I got into hip hop and 80's electro as I liked a bit of breaking and poppin... Late 80's, following on from electro a mate got me into new order that later turned into following the manc scene through to the 90's. Behind the scenes though I always liked my house music, from early Chicago house trax though every genre right up to now. Always wished I'd done the 88 acid bit but hey ho... Reckon I did every decent club night around the midlands and north coupled with the narcs that accompanied them :-)
I m lucky in that because of my age I saw some of the best(imo) bands and music styles when they first happened.Glam rock in the early -mid 70s(I was a kid, but loved Slade, Sweet, Showaddywaddy I went to quite a few punk gigs in the late 70s, I saw bands such as SLF, The Ruts, The Undertones. Bands like Teardrop Explodes, Thompson Twins, OMITD. Then the Jam, then onto my soul and jazzfunk acts(some of these genres overlapped). Early 90s raves, house music. I saw the birth of New Order from the ashes of JD(around 81 Bedford boys club). I also went to see Oasis at Knebworth. So although I m more likely to listen to soul and Jazz/funk music, I have plenty of variety in my music collection, and somedays when the missus and kids are out I have a punk and mod day, blasting out my old favorites..
