Don't know if this is quite the right place for this, so if it isn't can admin move it?
Going down to London for my birthday in 3 weeks. I've been down for football and to visit friends before but have only popped into clothes shops which I've seen in the passing, I don't know where many of the decent shops are so was wondering if any of you guys from down south could point me in the right direction (literally) and also some pubs in and around the city center?
Round Marylebone: John Simons (Ivy gear i.e. Pendelton, Bass, Stetson, rarities), Trunk, and Sunspel Soho & Oxford/Regent Street: Albam, Oliver Spencer, YMC, Supreme, Sunspel, Burberry, Brooks Brothers, Lacoste, Liberty's, Selfridges, Harvey Knicks (the latter three stocking all the major brands plus a few notable independents) Covent Garden: Barbour, Rohan, Patagonia, Albam Lamb Conduit St: Folk, Private White VC, Oliver Spencer
Sure I've missed a few out. TBH shopping in the east end is far more enjoyable then in the areas mentioned above, and unless you're looking for SI/RL/Lacoste etc there's not too much of interest that can't be found elsewhere (Garbstore in Notting Hill aside).
Love London, only been once for shopping though, wish I'd had more time.
Whats the name of the wee bit called again that branches into 5 different roads, has the Fred Perry and adi shop etc in the middle of it? Was decent round that way.

Seven Dials in Covent Garden
I thought it was something else but Seven Dials rings a bell so your probably right, aye.
Here's what i wrote for someone looking for a night in London (he wanted to stay near his hotel in town)... the only thing i'd add since then is you might want to check out Mascara in Stamford Hill.. it's open til 4 and there's always something going on in there.
"If you must stay in town then The Endurance is probably the only pub that stands out as being particularly good, the Old Coffee House is the best in terms of beer but there aren't so many younger people in there. You then want to head to the Soho Arts and Theatre Club on Frith Street, it's the only good place to go after hours in town, but it is really good, great drinks, good music and has the sort of female/male ratio people used to refer to Nottingham as having. I.e. there's loads of girls in there. Great vibes too, you can kind of get away with anything down there and everyone's up for dancing. You'll need to get there about 10-10.30PM to get in free and avoid paying a tenner. It's open til 3 or 4.
Saturday day you might want to do some tourist stuff or you might want to have a look round Shoreditch/Spitalfields for clothes shops, you have Albam, DS Dundee, Present, Goodhood, YMC, Son of A Stag, Barbour, and others all in close proximity. You could also head up to Broadway Market and get a drink in Off Broadway, The Market Cafe or the Dove. Don't head for Oxford Circus as it will be ridiculously busy and there is nothing there you can't get in Spitalfields.
On Saturday night you want to head for Dalston Junction, and work your way East along Kingsland Road from there. Look at Visions Video Club, Efes Pool Hall and Birthdays. Bar 23 and the Dalston Jazz Club are good stops along the way, as is Barden's Boudoir a bit further up, but just have a look in places on your way past and if you like the look of them drop in for a drink. All the places i've listed you can probably find on Google maps.
Oh, and avoid Camden/Angel/Old Street/Kings Cross like the plague."

yet to go son of stag, but is priority next time in town for me
Has to be one of the most under rated shops in London and one of the only importers of quality Japanese labels, also the best selection of denim.
Bit of a work wear paradise, but have had some real quality buys from there in the past... Plus it's about a 10 minute walk from my missus' house. Dangerous.
Not sure if Anthem Store has been mentioned but along with Trunk it's probably the best shop in London for variety of labels, Simon the guy who run's it is a proper gent.
Going for a few days next Saturday for the fa trophy final. Staying in bloomsbury Saturday night, wondering whether to do loads of pubs around there or go onto a club. hmmmm.

Had it been this weekend instead of next you could have experienced my last shift in one of central london's worst pubs.
Some good boozers round Bloomsbury and you could easily work out a crawl east through kings x, farringdon, old st etc if you wanted to go clubbing (admittedly for more interesting clubs you might need to look further afield than old st)

That's a shame, I like experiencing the rough pubs for a few minutes at least. I think we'll end up in soho, the pubs are all very touristy in cov garden, not what we're after.
Quote: Pentonville wrote in post #11Oh yeah, and when you talk about the 'city centre' of london, you are talking about a tourist/stag do hell.
Treat it like a night out in Liverpool at your peril.
What does that mean out of curiosity ?
In most towns in the uk (I used Liverpool as an example as I've lived there) you'd head straight for the city centre if you wanted to be catered for on a night out, regardless of what you were looking for. In fact the OP wrote about recommendations for the 'city centre'. It's not like that in london. The city centre is zone 1, down to the west end, and unless you want to hang out with big groups of rapey market towners in bootcut jeans and superdry then you really should give it a miss. I made some recommendations in my previous post, if anyone wants any more info or any other tips then I'd be glad to help..

If you could give me a few tips that'd be very much appreciated! Where would you recommend on saturday the 24th of march? We're staying in bloomsbury and we don't want to go too far away from the hotel as we only have saturday night, and then its off to wembley on the sunday. Looking for some interesting pubs and clubs which are open til 4 ish. Cheers!
Yeah course, see the bit in my post about soho, you're a short distance from there. There's also Bloomsbury lanes, which is a late bar with a bowling alley in it. I haven't been there for a few years but can't imagine it's changed much
I've only been twice, both times for a week, and covent garden and surrounding area ( ie over on brewer st, on regent st, seven dials, long acre (which is covent garden- I guess)) etc etc were all great for shopping. I stayed at the LSE residence (it was off season so I to in there for 40 quid a night) and it was an excellent base, being between Coventry Garden and Bloomsbury.
If you wanted to do some of the other things I mentioned rather than being stuck in town then you can always get an addison lee cab, they're pretty cheap, the number is 0844 800 6677
