Re: the 98 Human Rights Act. It gives British Courts the opportunity to deal with breeches of human rights and enshrines them in domestic law. The initial legislation came into effect in 1953 and is still shared by almost every European nation. Are you really saying you'd rip up a piece of legislation that is something of a gold standard across the continent? The problem here isn't the law, its that the government has refused to work with the Jordanian legislator to provide assurances regarding the sort of trial Qatada would face there. That a legal aid firm from north london is giving the Government the run around speaks volumes to me.
