If it is Metronidazole then definitely don't drink, you'll more than likely be violently sick. I've drank while on other antibiotics with no problems mind.
Antibiotics are overprescribed . They completely wipe out all your healthy gut flora - a very important and overlooked factor in general health - and building your gut flora is not easy. I wouldn't take antibiotics unless it was absolutely necessary but that's me.

That's exactly the advice I've always been given about antibiotics.

Only when taken for viral infections, when wrongly prescribed. Antibiotics are for Bacterial only. But if they have been prescribed, then they are needed. Plus you have to have multiple comorbidities and a history of antibiotic use to build up any sort of resistance or have adverse effects.
I disagree. It isn't needed just because your doctor has prescribed it. The same applies to statins, they are not needed in the vast majority of cases and there is evidence to suggest they cause more harm than good.

The first link is about IV ABX. He will have been given oral, therefore they have a different half life and break up. Of course there are side effects and potential draw backs to them, but it has less effect on the body than drinking 3 pints of alcohol in a day. Plus it depends on the gram polar of the ABX. C-Diff, MRSA ect develop mostly in those on long term use of Antibiotics or in an environment of over population. He probably has a 7 day course of a simple antibiotic to kill an infection. It will hardly kill him. Antibiotics are probably the most ground breaking find/invention since the wheel. Just a shame that the body is so smart that it becomes immune to strands after a while as is the way with biological evolution.
Antibiotics have different routes of leaving the body, some broken down in the liver, excreted in the urine or passing straight through in the faeces. To a large extent this determines how long they stay active in the body and how often you need to take them. Alcohol may increase the excretion rate or slow down the rate drugs are broken down.
This will not harm you, but it may limit their effectiveness. But occasionally antibiotics can pose a danger. The most harmful is metronidazole (Flagyl), which is used for mouth abscesses, gut inflections or bladder bugs. It’s closely related to Antabuse, a drug once used to deter alcoholics from drinking as it caused severe nausea and vomiting when mixed with booze. This led to rumours of wives spiking their husband’s drinks to stop them in their tracks.
On a number of occasions it did so... permanently. Most antibiotics around now won’t become toxic if mixed. But if you’re planning a session, consult a pharmacist.
