My wife's nephew is on half term and is staying with us for the week. Yesterday he told me that he is getting a Nintendo DS given soon for good behaviour in school. What is going on. Being rewarded with expensive goodies for having good behaviour? I'm baffled...
I never missed a day of secondary school, or sixth form for that matter, but i remember i went in a Box to watch a bore draw at Villa Park for that......Looking back the reward wasn't worth the reason....
we live in a society so different from what I remember , but nothing shocks .. too many nancy do gooders , too much bowing down , wrapping in cotton wool , and being scared of saying what you want , without fear of upsetting or insulting someone , kids need discipline - need to know right from wrong , need to know what is tolerated , and what is clearly wrong .. respect has all but disappeared now ..
We used to get a drawn on star on our hand in primary school. Think we had a stamp book with certificates awarded for good behaviour in secondary school, pretty shit really.

id love to know how the fuck you come up with your waffle ( i dont really) although feel free to explain the above , because all those words actually mean nothing, don't be scared of saying what you really want
the case of being rewarded for 'good behaviour' with electronic games however is fucking ridiculous. we need to reassess what education is and what it should be for. its in crises at the moment, and michael gove's planned reforms in my mind are another step in the wrong direction (he knows what he is doing though). worrying.
reached for the secret too soon, cried for the moon.
when at school I may not have liked the teachers , but respected them , and worried that if you stepped out of line you'd get whalloped by a ruler , today teachers can barely tell kids off , high attacks on teachers , my next door neighbour is one - and hates his job , the way kids are today ..
My Wife is Deputy Head in a private school where they take no nonsense from the kids. She was looking into going to work in a state school and I told her you need to think again. Gove is tinkering around with the education system and is going to make things far worse than it already is...
my son left a year ago , my daughter this year , and although their education was good , some classes the teachers had no control over , kids running riot .. drugs in school , ok drugs were around in my day ..

Madness!
I don't think gift rewards are necessary, but if they exist they should promote health and wellbeing. Not more sitting in front of a screen.

Exactly what I said to my wife nephew, why did they not give you something educational like a chemistry set instead a Nintendo DS?

Muskamber going by many of your previous posts you seem to have socialist/lefty views but your wife is a deputy head at a Fee paying Private school. I thought you would be well against Private Education.
Well, I tell them there's no problem Only solutions

Have no leftist views at all.
Just thought many of your previous threads/posts have been political and primarily anti - Tory.

I dont consider myself a socialist or leftist. Just don't look at things in black or white nor believe eveything that is shown in the media. All children deserve a good education wether at a private or state school. My wife earns around half less salary than if she worked in a state school and has never been motivated by money and focuses on the needs of the children.
I had perfect attendance first and second year of secondary school and I got a £10 John Menzies voucher which was then invalid because WH Smith bought them over and the poxy twats wouldn't take it!
When I was well behaved in junior school we got a gold star on chart in the classroom. When I was well behaved at secondary school they asked me if I was not feeling well.
Dirty old river, must you keep rolling, Flowing into the night.......
Too many times your hear of bad behaved kids getting stuff for being good for a week or so,my lad school rewards hard work and excellence,he has book vouchers which they receive so depending on what the gifts are and not Nintendo ds I don't think they are a bad thing ...

Too right. Damned if they do, damned if they dont are Schools. New tecniques come and go, people who slate schools whatever they do would of probably had a bad experience at school.
I'm not saying it's all bad rewarding kids , my job is being a boss over quite a few on my crew , and when things go well then praise is given , and righlty so , but a Nintendo ? or game station thingy ? come on , not exactly a good thing to do , cause they're gonna come to expect it .. today being paid is reward enough , just my opinion ..
