Alright lads, making my first trip to the capital tomorrow , taking the other half shopping and doing some myself. Wondering if anyone can reccomend some decent shops and bars to head to? Trying to stay away from the tourist traps!

Genius.
Town will be hell, and you'll get charged 20% on top of rrp for anything in liberty. If you feel like you need to go to Soho, Hideout is the only spot that doesn't have a branch elsewhere in London, although Peckham Rye will be the place to look if you're after ties/pocket squares/dress shirts. Albam and YMC are also close by. Woolrich have opened a store on Brewer street.
If I were you I'd head for Spitalfields, via Present and Anthem (there's a Carhartt store on the way too). You've got Albam, DS Dundee, Barbour, Clarks, plus the Truman brewery (Son of a Stag, Folk, some other shops, Rough Trade), plus you can drop in the St John for a bite. In fact, you could do Garbstore and Trunk too if you started early, but you will be beat by the evening.
You could always do both quite easily, I'd do town first though, just get the victoria line from oxford circus to highbury and then get the overground to shoreditch high street. In fact, you could do Garbstore and Trunk too if you started early, but you will be beat by the evening. I'd go west > east though. How late are you staying and where have you got to get back to?

It's worth a visit to see the architecture of the building!
last time i was up there, in soho most of the shops had discounts in the evening I think, don't know if they still do or if any one on here can verify that. Yes Liberty is a tourist place but be a tourist and have a look, your missis should like it but tell her your card doesn't work in their machines.
Cheers for all the help lads, I'm staying in slough with family. Currently en route to portobello and heading to covent gardens later. Here until Monday night though so should have plenty of time to hit all the shops I want to after shopping with the girlfriend.
