Just caught a bit of this discussion lunchtime on Talksport on the back of Vidic retiring.... who is in the best 5 CBs in PL history?......
All depends on what you count I suppose i.e. longevity, peak, ball playing CB versus old fashioned defender, etc...
so chaps, who's in your top 5? (and even Mac can take part in this one and nominate Johnny Woodgate ) or Chris Whyte...
*awaits JT as GTBI number 1.......
"The nightmares invading the sleep of Bayern fans involve four horsemen of the Champions League Apocalypse riding towards them. As the faces come into focus, they will recognise Frank Lampard, Cole, Petr Cech and Drogba. All were immense..."
been a leeds fan my nomination would be John woodgate..always looked the better one our central defensive pair with duck lips!...others that spring to mind john terry jamp stam and tony adams maybe sol cambel
Tony Adams - complete central defender JT - all time great Des Walker - coolness personified Marcel Desailly - all the time in the world Ron ' chopper ' Harris - LEGEND !
Terry (Through Gritted Anti-Racist/Shagging your mates Mrs teeth) Ashley Cole (Still As Good as ever) Rio Ferdinand (For the past, not the present) Gareth Bale (He may not have played in the Prem all that long but He'll be back) Marcel Desailly (Solid)
I must admit though I'm talking from a 2000 onwards blinkered perspective....If you hadn't already realised.
One that was superb for us for most of his time was Willie gallas. Not necessarily saying he's top 5 but he would certainly be in my strongest Chelsea defence.

At least your not trying to get David Luiz in there !!
Be careful what you dream of it may come up and surprise you.
[quote=Chinese_alan|p244425] Gareth Bale (He may not have played in the Prem all that long but He'll be back)
Bale? Really? Yes he started at left back but his game became noticed once he moved forward didn't it so I certainly wouldn't class him amongst the best defenders.
