Its back in the news again, but why do the news channels have to get the opinions of Families of those who died at Hillsborough? Obviously I have empathy with those who lost their lives in 1989, but apart from the Premier league, there has always been stadiums with standing/terraces. There have been no other instances of deaths at football(in the UK) as far as I m aware, caused due to overcrowding since 1989, and most games are all ticket now, so why not bring back small/safe standing areas in all grounds that wish to have them? I could understand the Hillsborough victims families being asked their opinions if people were saying take all seats out and reinstate terracing in the Kop or other large "Ends", but safe-standing would mean exactly that..
Hopefully big clubs like Manchester United showing an interest in safe standing will potentially make the authorities listen.
I can understand Hillsborough victims families being sceptical about the idea, but it's completely different to what it was like.
I'd love to get to a game at Dortmund with their all safe standing end behind the goal. I believe these safe stand areas can be turned into seats for European games.
Clubs can also charge more for seating, the big clubs wouldn't want to lose out on money would they?
The problem is that they are not skeptical, they are completely against it and not even open to debate.
Ironically, the fight for justice could be undermined by their opposition to safe standing as the accused can use standing as the excuse for their crimes.
Most clubs support it privately, including Manchester United. There is support from the clubs and overwhelming support from the fans. The Premier League money men are against it.
Safe standing caters for everyone. Those who want to sit can sit without their view being obscured and those who want to stand will have a designated section of the ground to stand safely.
It should also bring ticket prices down as well.
Liverpool would not be forced to install standing rails, it would be an option for all clubs. We could have a situation where every club in the league except Liverpool has safe standing. Liverpool's away support always stand so it wouldn't affect HFSG.
All seating killed the game for me, gone are the days you had your own spot, even if you were late getting to the ground, your spot was always reserved for you. If the game were shit you just fucked about with your mates. There's nothing worse now than having to sit next to some fat know all cunt who keeps trying to nick your leg room! Bring back the terraces, let's get some atmosphere back into the grounds!
It's ironic really as half the Kop stands during home games and they all stand at their aways. Standing in seating areas can be a danger in itself.
A good quote from elsewhere....'If I'd lost a relative on the Herald of Free Enterprise I wouldn't expect to be consulted on nautical safety, I'd leave it to the experts.'
Safe standing will happen and if Liverpool don't want to implement it then no problem.
Yous two quite finished? I never had any problems with terracing. .... As long as there were crush barriers
"The nightmares invading the sleep of Bayern fans involve four horsemen of the Champions League Apocalypse riding towards them. As the faces come into focus, they will recognise Frank Lampard, Cole, Petr Cech and Drogba. All were immense..."
(we) Utd, have stood at aways for years, have had reduced ticket allocations at Boro and S/land because of it. Scousers stand at their aways and a lot do on the Kop and Annie Rd End and I believe they have also had reduced ticket allocations because of it. It coming I believe.
R.I.P.to the 96 that lost there lives at Hillsborough and hopefully there will finally be some justice. But i grew up supporting The Toon on the terraces in the 70,s and the atmosphere was electric, what have we got today all seaters stadiums with no atmosphere, stewards telling you to sit doon fuck that and the younger lads that haven,t experienced the terraces i feel sorry for.
