Think there's a couple of gents on here that have one... Wrighty and Steve ? The other half is talking about us having a dog again, must admit to being quite keen on the Bulldog. i've heard they're great with kids and generally fairly low maintenance (not walking far etc etc) but short life expectancy. We did have a boxer previously that was an experience in itself but when the little uns came along I just couldnt trust it near the baby. The girls are older now 6, 8 and 17 so fancy giving it a go as I've always been a dog-man at heart. Ant tips, pointers, things to watch etc etc as I want to be 100% sure it's right to do...ta
I've had 3 mate, all lived quite happily together, never gave me any grief. I'd read up on the breed first and make sure it's the right breed for you. They are by nature idle dogs and would rather lounge about all day than go for a walk. Go to some Champ shows and talk to owners/breeders, don't be afraid to ask, most are only too happy to help.
Oh, and one other think, they can fart......a lot!
I'd thoroughly recomend them, however they can be stubborn and have a mind of their own. Mine isn't allowed upstairs or on the sofa. Every opportunity he gets he sneaks upstairs onto the beds or on the sofa. You try and get him off he makes himself into a dead weight and you literally have to drag him off. As soon as you walk away he will get up again. So long as you are prepared for those sorts of daily battles, you'll be ok. He loves the kids, just follows them round the house, loves their company. Only thing I'd say is he is a bit clumsy with younger kids. I walk mine with our black Lab, he's got loads of energy. I measure his food so he keeps trim. They last a lot longer if you keep them fit and keep the weight off them. Not cheap though!! Cute pups though.
Thats a beauty mark. My girls would love one i reckon, heard they're quite protective too, particularly over kids they've grown up with ? Like the idea of that... They alright on their own for a few hrs in the day, say 6 hrs tops ?
Lovely dogs and a good breed. I have a stubborn Bassett hound which is pretty much in the same "not arsed if you walk me" mould but she is one greedy little lady.

Basset hounds, brilliant dogs, Basil my mates dog passed away last year. He was one chilled dog, nothing fazed him, he just got on with life.....in his own time.
@ Scooby, as they spend most of their lives sleeping, I doubt if your Bully will even know your gone.

My 2 dogs are on their own from 8 til 4, 3 days a week. In the spring/summer they have the back door open, but in winter they are fine indoors on their own. They're a fairly calm/lazy breed so not prone to chewing things through boredem. Not sure I'd say my boy is protective, but he does follow the kids round the house. I think English Bull Terriers are the more protective of thier owners/kids. Do buy from a reputable dealer though as I've heard loads of horror stories aof people buying 'cheap' bulldogs and them dropping dead or suffering from major health problems.
