Do you think the priveledge of wearing the captains armband has been devalued now? It was passed around like an old rag last 3 times!! Know it was only a friendly but shouldn't there be someone left for the entire game on the pitch as captain??
I think the rot set in Scott once they started changing complete teams in friendlies. It is a shame. International caps used to be the pinnacle for most. Terrible how it's been devalued never mind how the armband is now an afterthought almost.
"The nightmares invading the sleep of Bayern fans involve four horsemen of the Champions League Apocalypse riding towards them. As the faces come into focus, they will recognise Frank Lampard, Cole, Petr Cech and Drogba. All were immense..."
Agreed, should go out and play the strongest team possible and forget all this chopping and changing, keep that on the training ground. Doing this in friendlies hasn't done England any good at all IMO.
There are very few 'leaders' left in the game. When a modern day footballer opens his gob, 90% of the time it's shouting bile towards the referee, 5% it's to spit, and the rest possibly to team mates. A captain should be a centre half or a centre mid. Someone who commands respect and motivates players. I can think of very few players that lead by example anymore, they're all as bad as each other!
