Car you drive and what car would you like realistically, taking into consideration crippling fuel costs, so no flash bastards please

Some of the piston heads i knew at the time couldn't live with me and my Talbot, XR3i, RS1600i, SRi and Capri 2.8i, neither could keep up with me, all tried and failed.
My second biggest regret in life was selling it, the first was getting married.

Shit.....................shovel.
You got to remember ja, we're talking about a car that was built in '81.
They were built specifically for rallying but in those days the rules stated you had to produce 400 road cars a year to comply.
I've got a vw polo. It's 12 years old and has 160,000 miles on the clock. She is a bit battered and bruised but she is reliable as fuck(touch wood). Flash motors do not really interest me, so i'd probably just get myself a golf or an audi a3 if i had the money.
ive been driving a mazda 6 for over 6 years from new, great motor and not had any real problems with it, will probably get another once i trade it in.....ideal motor for me?? at the moment any 4x4 would do just so i can drive out my street in this dam snow ;-)
