My online radio show finished last week after a year of broadcast, so I've started a new podcast and here's the first installment. 2 hours of house and disco for your auditory pleasure. Each week the site will be updated with the new show so keep an eye out for mixes of fresh and former favourites.
Will give it a listen pal, not into Techno but a couple of records I know in there, Munga's class got some awsome records I've been playing with, as has Lee Foss, I love the Hot Natured sound, very much a 5am horny beat, right up my street, cheers fella
On a side note mate, Cut Copy were on the scale for me for years but not into their recent stuff, seem to have gone a little lax, even the remixes of their new work's are not up to scratch, don't seemed to have moved on from indie-dance, got a mix from them from 4/5 years odd back I'll upload it and put it up it's superb

I'm in agreement mate but I think Carl Craig's remix effort is decent and the sound fitted nicely into where I was taking the mix so it seemed appropriate. Would like to hear that mix mate, used to love their stuff
Love this track, great builder at peak time. What's your set up?[/quote]
Great tune mate.
I currently use a 1210, 2 CDJ1000 mk3's and a DJM 600.
I've chopped and changed many times in recent years due to various reasons, mainly due to the set up not really getting the use it deserved and my interest constantly varying in different music. Most lads I know have made the transition to a digital set-up with Traktor and MIDI controllers etc, some even using Ipad's in their sets but I've always been a bit of purist and still love getting amongst it in the vinyl stakes now and again.

vinyl all the way here mate. dont play out too much since leaving university so no real need to have a steady supply of new hype tunes, and prefer having the product - hoarder in me. Have played around with Midis and the scope for creativity is unreal. Interesting you bring up ipads, know hawtin and space dimension controller are just two of the artists integrating them into their set ups. Bit envious of your CDJ1000s, the looping and usb functions on them are really nice touches.
You can't stand in the way of progression, I played on stantons growing up, then 1210's for years, made the change to cd decks 3 years ago for various reasons rolled into 1, best thing I ever did, so much scope, I'm selling my vestax cdr recordable decks and upgrading to the pioneers, either the 1000mk3 or the 900's, and fitting a little set up back downstairs again, I'm not sold on computer mixing though ? Traktor etc, the concept of records and CDs is the same, you play them and match the beat up, does traktor do this automatically ? I ended up last weekend in a basement club in London that was on during the day 2pm-11pm and the lads there had 2 cdjs, 2 laptops, and a mixer, but I didn't see them using their headphones they were just bringing tracks in left right and centre ? But like I said you can't stop progression, when we played the horse and groom last Friday night at Neil thorntons discovery night we played on cd and vinyl, the lads after us and before us were all using a laptop, and they are in their 40's, not sure what to make of it to be honest but next time I'm playing I will have a chat with them and watch them see how it works. 1985 how have you got your decks into your pc to stream it mate ?
Using software such as Traktor/Ableton Live etc opens up endless possibilities in a DJ set, effects wise and creativity is broadened massively with ability to use four plus input sources and the effects parameters. If I was to use software I'd go for Ableton live, I've used it before and had a go on a mates Launch pad a while back, great stuff.
I think if your a producer Ableton is the best option as you can re-create your tracks better live integrated with live instruments if one wishes. I studied music production at college for a bit a few years ago and picked up the basics of producing with Logic, at the time Ableton was relatively new on the scene so it was an exciting time for EDM and I learned alot about it in a short space of time.
Personally when I'm recording the podcast or a mix I just use Soundforge software and an external Soundcard, mine's M-audio but I got that a while back on the cheap. I think they are expensive and there are plenty of cheaper alternatives that do the same job.

Which club were you in for the daytime session? Know what you mean about not standing in the way of progress but I still think there's something to be said for vinyl as a medium. Watching Jeff Mills knock off track after track or Theo Parrish playing a batch of white labels will always appeal to me more then watching a laptop dj even if it's akin to Hawtin's Plastikman live set up. I also think that some programs can make very lazy/average djs sound a lot better then they are as well. End of the day I suppose the medium is less important than the music, if it makes me dance then I've no real complaints.
1985 - those Launch pads are nuts aren't they, being able to throw in loops and effects so easily is pretty revolutionary. I use Ableton Live for production a bit but I don't get much time to really get into it - mainly just cutting and relayering loops pretending I'm Todd Terje! How do you find soundforge? Whenever I've made mixes in the past I just go straight into Live, generally don't do much to them bar very slight tweaking but the mix down isn't the best (or I'm doing it wrong)

I've used Sound Forge for a long time now, Audacity isn't a bad software either. I like my mixes to be of a high sound quality and I can get them at 320 kbps with SF.
I had the ableton pad when I started editing and trying out remixing, I just didn't have the time to get stuck into it, I edit and remix my own tracks now but only to extend them or change the intro / outro for mixing with, I make my own samples and break downs and then put them all on one cd and use that on the deck that's not playing, the main reason why I swapped from vinyl is that I can make my own loops and samples and play them, and the fact I don't have to wait for records or White label releases I will just find what I want from somewhere, there's a massive scope for the future, I don't agree with average djs sounding amazing though using computer software as the main thing is down to music choice, anybody is only as good as the music they play. I've never looked into hooking it all up, I've just got my decks amp mixer and a cd recorder to record the mix I do, I will have a good look at it all though in the coming months just so I know what it's all about. Cheers lads
I'm not going to lie, having all of your music in the palm of your hand is much more appealing than humping a record box or a CD Bag around, the accessibility and the ability to manipulate the music to bed in with the setting at any one time is the real draw in a fully digital conversion. I like hands on as it suits what I want to achieve, just playing good tunes and keeping the flow and groove consistently good.
I've never really wanted to take things that step further, I've always been much happier taking a step back and enjoying what other DJ's have to offer.
I personally think Ableton is shit and Tracktor/Mixmeister are all crap imho, Yeah agree Cdj's for looping and efx etc. But put me up againest anybody digital and armed with 2/3 decks mixer/efx unit, will be more involved and in the zone and play extend loop the fuck out of, take you on a journey and be much better to watch. I find the programs giving people that option to not be spontainious, which to me is what Djin is all about, Shit I cant even remember the last time i even packed my record bag properley, nothing better than just grabbing a pile of records blind, hitting the venue and it all just works. thats music

I semi agree Ja', I think it should be decks & mixer, but I also plan my records for each set I do, everyone's different though, but the thing is my music ranges from 95bpm to 130 bpm so I couldn't just take anything, not without planning it first, plus I wouldn't just take "any" music, people pay for the privilege to listen to you and want to hear new music and something that keeps them on their toes for that 1-3 hours depending on how long you have, and I don't think you can reach that maximum effect by playing anything or whatever comes out the box first, there's music that I personally love but I know most wouldn't so I don't play it, I'm into all the music that I play but from various gig's I've found out what works and what keep's people there, waiting for the next record and wanting to hear what your playing next and just playing anything doesn't achieve that in my humble opinion.
Yeah I think we coming from 2 very different angels here, I wont play a genre based night no more or try to avoid, I want to do what i want and freak people out with wacky sounds, Ofcourse you take what works and I have done in the past, I just prefer not to plan anything nowadays and glad I get the freedom to do this. Thing is with me I have no real drive and have nothing to lose when Djin, and usually the surprise element of dropping something obscure works, Yes it depends on your crowd, but for me I play for me and if they dont like it they can drink/dance/sniff elsewhere.... I have also been in situations whereby you think you have the right rekids and they just dont work on the night whether it be the crowd or the atmosphere, Thats why I firmly believe there is a certain spirituality to Djin, Ask Osunlade hahahahaa

Haha, a guy on a journey, I do get that mate as our pm's the other day, there is no right or wrong in music just different styles & personalities, I can appreciate your night and would happily sit there for hours on end in a big k hole, were just in different timescales regarding playing, I'm trying to make an extra living from it aswell as enjoying it so I have to be a bit more choosey say.
