apologies for yet another film thread. ive enjoyed quite a few foreign film, different cultures, perspectives, history's and politics can be interesting, but also seeing the consistencies and similarities of life from country to country. seen a few mentioned in other threads and thought it would be good to share them here, as they can be a little tougher to find than the usuals.
sky indie and film4, has brought quite a few to my attention.
2 good french films ive watched recently have been, Amelie - quite a feel good film in the sense that the obscurity of thought/confusion of human relations looking from the outside in, and the strange ways in finding or searching for happyness. Audrey tautou main character only a good thing in my book! the Class - the complexity of the classroom. racial and cultural ( class ) barriers within school and wider society, interesting film worth a watch think its on tomorrow on sky indie
i'll add a few more later ...............
reached for the secret too soon, cried for the moon.
Watched a few on indie as well J, cant remember the names of most of them but you do get some great films on there. Probably missed out on some other good ones though as most the time i end up getting bored quite quickly with subtitled films.
Most of the above and Das Boot The Lives of Others The Baader Meinhof Complex The Counterfeiters A Prophet The Stig Larrson Millenium Trilogy Monica Bellucci in Malena. Nearly every film Francois Truffaut directed. I love foreign cinema,me.
City of god, Sin Nombre, La Haine, and A Prophet... I watched these thinking I wouldnt enjoy them as much as I did, I'd say A Prophet is probably one of my favourite films now as well

I was just about to say how weird it was that no one had mentioned this. A fucking classic, what a movie.
I would also recommend you Armadillo, a danish documentary released in late 2010. It was subject to much controversy, firstly because the army allowed a film crew to join the troops and film everything, and secondly because of the footage they got back with. It basically shows how ridiculous the war is, and how hard it is for young men to cope with it. Received several awards worldwide and was a succes when it was showed at the BFI film festival this year.
The category of the prosumer commodity does not signify a democratization of the media towards participatory systems, but the total commodification of human creativity
As said, Gomorra is a very realistic story. Really got to me. Also like das Leben der Anderen and Goodbye Lenin, both german situated during the soviet period. Great stories imo Gegen die Wand is also a very good, but very "raw", dark like. Those germans know how to make films!
