The English Prem is in a inflated world of its own. Phil Jones for £16m and Jordan Henderson for approx £18m. Both will be squad players. Both decent young English players - but never worth that sort of dosh.
Well, I tell them there's no problem Only solutions

Agree decent lads but overpriced & not really proven at the top level.
Zitat von VasqueIt's the 'British player tax' though isn't it.
Look at what Milner went for FFS
Nothing to do with being British, it''s strictly an English thing. If Ramsey was English he would have gone for double what Arsenal paid.
You're right there Rhys. To be fair to Jones and United, if 16 million is the fee, the probability is that he will be there for a decade and once Rio calls it a day or is eased out of Old Trafford, he will become a mainstay in the side. Another shrewd buy by Ferguson in my opinion. Already building a new side - the Da Silvas, Chicarito, Smalling, Jones and I'm sure one or two more to come in the summer. I see the kid spoke to Arsenal - the London clubs will struggle to sign the likes of your Joneses, Rodwells, James McCarthys, Hendersons, Adam Johnsons - these young kids always seem to plum for the big north east sides.
Think Arsene has the right transfer policy atm. Not paying well over the odds for average to good young English born players. Utd, City, Chelsea and now Liverpool are paying well over the odds for these players. Whats happened to these clubs developing there own talent.
Like going to buy a house and paying 50% more than its worth - fucking stupidity.

I think Wenger's policy of buying powder puff centre halves and 2nd rate goal keepers in spot on - long may it continue!
Zitat von RVP's Left FootBetter than wasting £50 million on a centre forward thats well past his best.
well that remains to be seen..........
The problem with Wenger is that he has become a sad parody of himself. I actually began to worry about his health last season - he looked desperately thin and frail and not exactly they type you could look to for inspiration in the dressing room. Unlike Ferguson, who has accepted every challenge in his time at United, from knocking Liverpool off his perch to the new billionaire owners, Wenger just whinges and tells us how unfair it is for Arsenal - again hardly inspiring. Ferguson continues to build, rebuild and consistently wins trophies. Wengers continues to moan, pull his hair out, refuse to shake hands with opposition managers - to me he's lost it.
Wenger undoubtedly changed the landscape of English football with his professor type attitude to training, diet, style of play and so on. However, the longer he continues to buy inconsistent, frail players like Arshvain, Rosicky, etc instead of a defender like Terry or Vidic who can lead and would there head where most wouldn't put there foot and a midfielder who can put his foot in when needs be, the more in danger he is of ruining his own legacy. It's been six year since they've won a major trophy under Wenger and it will be more. Phil Jones is exactly the type of player Arsenal should be going for. Not to worry, a host of kids with exotic sounding names will beat Accrington 5 nil in the Carling Cup in October and all will be well again. Until there's a six pointer at Old Trafford or a similarly high pressured game!
Anyway, this is a transfer thread - Jones to United - good move alround I'm afraid to say. Ferguson really is the master.
Wenger record in the Transfer Market would stand up against any other manager in the English Prem over the last 20 years. Van Persie £2.75m, Vermaelen £8m two prime examples. From 2006 to 2009 he had to work with restricted funds due to the move to the Emirates - just wasn't able to financially compete with Man Utd,Chelsea and Man City.
Hopefully he will get transfer funds over next couple of seasons to improve team and squad. Have at look at this link and you will see how for transfer buying and selling his record is second to none.
