I like the tour. I like watching Cav and Hushovd battle, and with Schleck up a minute plus over Contador one day in...could set up for an interesting week.
Also, want to see Cancellera make people blow up chasing his moves.
I've been watching this trying to get a grasp of how it works but I just can't. I always thought that the yellow jersey was given to the winner (i.e the person wearing it this year was the winner last year) then I see a green jersey that I didn't even know existed and people winning sprints etc etc. Need to egt my head round it to start enjoying.

the rider in the Yellow jersey is the rider who has the best overall time in the General Classification for this years tour. A rider can hold onto it for several stages or only one, depending on what happens in the race. The Green jersey is awarded to the overall best sprinter, it works in the same way as the Yellow jersey but instead of having the overall best time it is who has the most points won for sprints.. there are various checkpoints on each stage, usually on flat bits, the 1st to cross that checkpoint recieves 10 points (i think, not sure of exact numbers) and whoevers 2nd receives 8 or 9 and so on.. That might not be 100% accurate but you get my drift? I hope haha.
The polkadot jersey is the King of the Mountains Jersey awarded to the best climber.. again it works in the same way as the green jersey but sprints are replaced with particularly steep climbs etc.
The White jersey works in the same way as the yellow jersey but is awarded to the best Young rider.
Hope that makes sense, i'm not exactly an expert, but i love the Tour.. it does take a wee bit to get into it until you start to appreciate some of the finer points, tactics etc. But once your into it, it's superb imo.

Yeah I had kind of figured it out but it will take a bit more watching to really get my head round it.
Know what you mean about the tactics, was watching it today (not sure if it was live or highlights) and HTC were leading the way with Cavendish sitting just in a pocket behind them until the perfect opportunity to break off and cross the finish line first, was impressive to say the least. Was thinking today this must be the hardest sporting event in the world imo.

aye, the sprint finishes are brilliant.. i love the mountain stages though, when you see a group of 4 or 5 breaking away on the Pyrenees, working together for the whole time to stay ahead of the peleton and then battling it out in the last 5k for the stage win. Agreed 100% mate, it is brutal, I can definitely understand why so many turn to performance enhancing drugs etc.
Zitat von get the beer inAnyone see that car just clip that rider.
Aye ran over then thrown into a barbed wire fence. Ouch!
Fair play to him Ryan, he's back in the race.
Aye seen that, getting sorted out by a doctor riding beside him on a scooter. That's dedication. Really getting into this now, still getting to grasps with it all but that's all part of the fun i suppose.
Why does voeckler get the yellow jersey even though sanchez finished ahead of him in this stage? Is it because overall he has the best time from all previous stages added up?

Correct.
There's been examples in the past where the overall winner wins the race without winning any stages. Armstrong did it one year I'm quite sure.

I get it now, the yellow jersey acts as a marker. So for example, if i was to start the day in second, 3 minutes behind him overall, and I went on to finish 4 minutes in front of him I would now be overall leader. Got it.

Contador did this last year i think? Been done a few times.
