Looking at a long weekend away with the ball & chain to York . So after some help if possible please . 1 Hotel reccomendations , we like Oldy Worldy oak beam type places . 2 Shops , good clothing ones . 3 Nice Restaurants . 4 Sightseeing , couple of nice places to go .
Not sure on hotels, only stayed in Premier before i moved here but sure there will be a few like you're after. For shops there is Coggles(UW,Heritage,Cabourne, red wing etc),Van Mildert ( S.I,CP,Boss),Mannix(P&S,Boss,Ralph,Barbour), Barbour which surprisingly stocks...........Barbour.Superdenim if you fancy a trip there The shops are quite close to each other so if you get to one you'll find the others. The outlet is about 4 mile outside York but like most outlets is hit and miss, was a big miss last week
Not really one for eating out but Oscars is nice and its right in the center, not done the sightseeing either really but theres plenty to do,ghost walks sound crap but are popular and meant to be quite entertaining and theres the York dungeon which is a laugh
If you're coming at the weekend avoid Micklegate and Yates, its where the stag/hen night go
Good place to stay that, great location. Only problem is that it doesn't have a car park if you're travelling to York by car. You'll end up forking out a few quid for public car parking. The Hotel Du Vin is further out of the city centre, but is a great hotel IMO.

Stayed in a Hotel Du Vin in Poole, one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in. Really helpful staff, the food was ace, and the rooms were very nicely done.
Take the missus to http://www.jbakers.co.uk/ for some snap. Jeff is an SI wearing, Middlesbrough frontline former Michelin star chef. Good food with no airs and graces. He didn't even grass me up when he saw me at Boro v Leeds last year!
Goto Betty's for breakfast before the rush, can recommend the eggs benedict, some good pubs down stonegate especially one above a top off license that sells all manner of European beers, lots of Belgian ones. I might be wrong but I don't think Superdenim or Rugged Standard as I think he called the shop is open anymore :-(
The actual city center shop shut down last year mate, there is another one near a place called Easingwold near me,not a proper shop but they're okay if you want to bob in to try or buy

Lime House is a good place, the 3 course lunch is exceptional value, always eat there when in York. Also recommend the National Railway Museum, free to get in and you can marvel at the history of what we gave to the world.
