It kills you eventually, been pretty much proved, its expensive and it makes you stink. For those reasons I'm out.
Question to smokers, if a doctor said to you if you have one more fag you will die could you stop smoking?
I guess you drink? Alcohol is a bigger killer than tabs by a long chalk.
I used to drink heavily, but now drink in moderation. I also give up for 3 months a year. But thats not the question was it? If someone said to me the same thing about drinking, I could stop like that. What i was getting at by asking the question was how smokers who say how hard it is to stop/they just can't do it etc. If their life depended on it could they stop just like that? If the answer is yes, then they should be able to stop as their life expectancy does depend on it.
And I'll just add as I take it by mentioning alcohol, you were thinking that I was having a go at smokers, that I couldn't give a fuck about whether people smoke or not. I'm all for free choice, but if you choose to smoke don't bleat on about how you can't give up (and thats not a knock at you Moxey). Make your choice and get on with it.
Fair enough Wrighty, and I hear what your saying. I think the majority would make the conscious effort of packing in if such a situation arise.
I think there's a big difference between alcohol addiction and nicotine addiction. You could stop smoking tomorrow if you really wanted, I think the fact people get addicted to tabs is down to an actual pleasure they get from smoking. Alcohol is totally different, it becomes dependent rather than a pleasure and is actually more dangerous to stop drinking suddenly. Just look at Amy Winehouse.

sorry Ian but that's so much absolute bollocks its untrue I'll take 2007 as it was easiest to find. Alcohol & related deaths in UK = 8724 Cigs and related deaths in UK = 107,000 (From Cancer research BTW) its not even close. The same year they reckon 43,000 deaths from cancer in the UK was related to smoking - over a 1/4 basically.
I'll quote...from www.Cancer.org - the US site (which, btw every year in the US, tobacco kills more Americans than did World War II — more than AIDS, cocaine, heroin, alcohol, vehicular accidents, homicide and suicide combined.)
"Is there a safe way to smoke cigarettes? No. All cigarettes damage the human body. Any smoking is dangerous. Cigarettes are the only legal product whose advertised and intended use -- smoking -- is known to harm the body and cause cancer."
and if you don't believe the research, you can always wonder why it says SMOKING KILLS in fuck off letters on a single packet - whereas a bottle of Jack in fuck off letters it says....Tennessee Whiskey......
"The nightmares invading the sleep of Bayern fans involve four horsemen of the Champions League Apocalypse riding towards them. As the faces come into focus, they will recognise Frank Lampard, Cole, Petr Cech and Drogba. All were immense..."

I was a heavy smoker. Hopelessly and embarrassingly addicted, I'd tried and failed to pack in numerous times. Got told I had to stop for a medical reason. I quit that night and have never touched the things again. I'm ashamed I didn't have the balls to do it sooner.
Smoked ciggies/weed for 25 years up until 2 years ago. Just gave up one day and found it suprisingly easy to quit. First time i'd even bothered to try. Every now and then though i just catch a whiff of a smoke and i get that urge. Know fellas who have been off them 10 years and they say they could light one up easily once they start on the beer.
