I took an apprenticeship when I left school but should have gone to Uni really to study English lauguage with the grades that I had. For years I contemplated going back and eventually I found a course that would help me get to where I wanted to be which was a fashion and culture writing degree at Southampton. For a number of reasons I didn't end up taking it which was a pretty good decision really as now I'm doing more than alright on my own and things are looking really good, which is obviously great.
A lot of my friends went to Uni and I always thought that perhaps I missed out on the social aspect of things, but to be quite honest with you I don't think I could have asked for a more fulfilling social life so all in all I'm pretty glad that I didn't end up going.
I spent a year at City University in London last year.
The course was perfect, the teachers even better. Sadly most of my fellow students was pricks. And it costed waaay too much compared to how many hours I actually spent there. Coming from Denmark, I still have an extremely hard time imagining how anyone can pay their tuition fees in the UK??
I really enjoyed studying and reading (I studied Criminology and Sociology), and as soon as I got back I applied for Sociology here in Copenhagen. I'm starting next year and am really looking forward to it.
I would really recommend some of you brits who consider going to uni to at least take a term or two abroad. People at uni in Denmark for example is at least 2-3 years older than nearly everyone I met at City and that is definitely a good thing. People are much more mature and it really helps.

I left school in 1982 aged 16 and went straight into an apprenticeship. That was the norm back then, leave school at 16 and look for a job. The numbers going to university back then were very small compared to today.
I study law at the University of Utrecht, I love it to be honest. A lot of people from my year are a bit older which I find positive as they don't really mess about. I've got my social life outside of the University so don't really need people from my year to be good fun and all.
I'm interested in hearing how people in the uk pay for their degrees? Obviously it's a personal question but if someone would explain I'd be very interested. Everyone I met in London either had rich parents or was in massive debt which they had to pay off for the next 30-40 years. Hardly a system that works.

Didn't bother as I'd had enough of education/exams after doing my A Levels and had a job lined up anyway. All my mates from school went, so I ended up having a great time visiting them and going on the piss in Newcastle/Sheffield/Durham/Manchester etc at weekends, but had money to spend as I was earning a decent wage. That said, I ended up doing a night time college course to get my accoutancy qualifications a few years later.

I still owe about £18k to student loans but I'm not arsed. I was happy to borrow it so am happy to pay it back. With the new system people will be owing a lot more but they make it so you pay it at a manageable rate when you're earning reasonable dough
Im at Sheffield Hallam, had to do a prep year for Engineering to improve my Maths & Physics as my GCSE Grades weren't good enough to let me do them at A-Level. Now into my 2nd year of 4 year degree doing BEng (Batchelor Engineering) Electrical & Electronic Engineering.
Can be stressful at times but I always get through it, commute 60 mile round trip a day because I enjoy what I do. Plus it stops me going on 13 day alcohol benders *cough*SAFCBeaufort*cough*

IMO a level maths is harder than the maths you do on some engineering degrees. Great social life as astudent but I think you are a bit niave at 19 to appreciate it fully. When I see students out now I cringe at how they behave but I was probably the same.
BEng here a good while ago now.
Its a different game now with 9k a year to pay back. I think getting a job and a company who are prepared to get you through a degree could be the way to go.
I'm in my third year now doing Business Management. It's quite interesting at times. I'm dreading when I finish to be honest, I just don't know what am going to do. I really want to start up a business.
I'm in my second year now, studying history and philosophy (doing my Bachelor) at the uni of my hometown. When it comes to history it's one of the better qualified universitys in the country and i'm quite happy with it at the moment. Doing loads of interesting stuff. As someone mentioned the time really flys by while you're studying. Not sure yet in which direction i want to go jobwise tbh. By the way ... the fees you are paying in the UK seem to be madness compared to the amounts you've got to pay over here in germany, it's definitely much cheaper here. It's no problem to work a few weeks during the semester-holidays and make the money for the fees of a whole year.
Quote by Chinese_alanDid you go ? If so what did you make of it ?
Ive just moved away, not too far away from home, but moved away !!
Unsure what to make of it so far really, been here 6 weeks, already a quarter of a way through this year !! Time has flew by !!
If you didnt go, would you of liked to/would you like to at some point ?
What uni do you go to mate?
Keele mate !!
They used to have good northern soul all-nighters at keele uni. The few students that popped along to those out of curiosity must of either realy enjoyed it or simply thought WTF !!!
