I was speaking with an agent the other day and he has about 12 shops on his books, pretty well known too which he said by next year at some point they will be gone out of business, sad times
Afraid so Saul well established shops both with online presences, brands are not getting their money in on time is a big factor, he wouldnt spill the beans but said we could well be shocked.

That's a good point. The world is in a deep recession and yet certain brands are putting their prices up by ridiculous amounts. Going to be many casualties you sense.
Definately its all part of the Elitist movement where only the strongest survive, Its a shame real shame expecially when you know these people have been around for a long time and are really passionate.
Chap who I get some of my stock from has 5 well established shops and internet site, I've noticed most of his brands have put prices up, and he's put the percentage prices up on, so now my prices aren't as good. There will be a lot more to fall by the wayside over the next few years, but where will that leave the brands? If they are uping their price to the shops, who in turn up their price, everyone waits for the sales- the shops make no profit, they end up closing, so now the brands have a smaller market do they raise the price again to recoup any loses??? ....
Quote by ThomPrices in shops go up because the price of production has gone up. Production cost has gone up because prices of material have gone up. Landslide...
To a degree yes but not exclusively. Look at Cabourn. He couldn't give his stuff away in Debenhams but now he's de rigueur he asks £1500 for a coat.
^ yeah but when he was in Debenhams it was 1. a different collection to the line he's doing now and 2. Cotton (and other material) prices have only been on the massive rise in the last 6months. *don't you read Monocle Vasque?*

His utility range for Debenhams was nothing to do with his mainline Vasque, 2 completely different part's.

The Everest parka was virtually identical style wise was it not? I'm not sure if the fabrics are the same though.

To be honest, i'm not sure because i've only seen a few piece's from back in the utility range days but i doubt it is a fraction of the quality that NC is today.
I had the Utility Everest Parka and while it was better value than the newer versions it was nowhere near as 'posh'. i.e. the newer versions don't seem to scrimp on anything, whereas the Debenhams version was lower budget. Fake fur for example.

Do you think the newer version is good value at £2,000?

I think Cabourn sees himself as Rolex type brand that will sell whatever. I can't see any other reason for the high prices.
